Thanksgiving in Arkansas

Well, crew, I'll be leaving tomorrow for Arkansas to spend Thanksgiving with my mom. She has not been in the best of health so I really need to see her. I'm feeling guilty about not making it up this past summer. I won't be returning until Sunday, and it's quite likely I won't be back to blogging until Monday or Tuesday. Mom doesn't have any kind of internet connection and the library where I sometimes access email and such while I'm there won't be open over the holidays. I imagine I can manage.

One funny thing. I talked to my brother tonight about picking me up at the airport, and he asked me if my favorite pie was chocolate. Apparently, someone in the family is thinking of baking me a pie. Score! The funny part is that about ten years ago my mom decided that chocolate had always been my favorite pie, and even though I tell her each year that it is actually lemon, I have not shaken her chocolate conviction. I always get a big kick out of that. And if I have to eat a fresh chocolate pie, well, I suppose I'll just have to suffer!

The things we do for family!

See you all when I return, and happy Thanksgiving!

I second that.

You will have plenty to write about when you get back, I'd wager.

Suffer for your pie and not your art says I.

The things that we do (high sugar, increased weight, feeling satisfied) in order to keep harmony within the family.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Isn't it funny how these little mistakes become family legend over time. Best to you and yours,

Chocolate's good for you. Mom always knows best.

Have a good and safe trip. I'll be enjoying my family at home as well.

That is funny how you shared how they think your favorite pie is chocolate. Sometimes what people want to be YOUR favorite is the easiest type or the type of food they know how to make or they like themselves.

But you do not sound overly disappointed with chocolate.

Have a great day with your family!

Happy Thanksgiving Charles. I can relate to the chocolate pie story. You must have enjoyed a chocolate pie when you were a kid and your mom never forgot. I think it's sweet that they want to do something special for you.

Yes, Chocolate can be very convicting hehe.

Have a safe trip and hopefully you can get the most out of seeing your mother during this tough time.

P.S. I tried to take a look at your books at the Borders Bookstore I go to and they had to order them :( I guess I'll have to wait to thumb through and see em in person.

Hey, I'd be strong over that pie issue too. I might even go truly virtuous and have TWO pieces.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin's my favorite, but I could live with chocolate.

Hey, happy congrats and T-Bird Day and may the Lions roar, even if I also like their opponents.

I know what you mean about feeling guilty -- also didn't see my folks this past summer and may not get there to see 'em in NC until next year. Cheers, man, to you and Lana and yours'

Ha, must be something about moms with adult sons. Mine is convinced that carrot is my favourite cake. Carrot?! [It's actually...chocolate.]

I bet your chocolate pie was delicious (pecan pie is my favorite but chocolate sounds awfully darn good).

I'm glad you got to spend time with your mother. I hope your Thanksgiving was great!

Benjibopper,

Even old Freud said that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. By extension, a chocolate cake is just a chocolate cake.
And watching Howdy -Doody in my youth (it was Howdy-Doody that dunnit to me!) I can't get that stupid phrase out of my head: "Nestle's makes the very best...CHOCOLATE"

Ah, Hobson's choice.

It's no better at the top, and belive me, I've been there.
Father used to say, "You're rich and still neurotic."
I kinda liked erotic. Ah. Fat bottom girls make the world go 'round.

Oh damn.

I think I lost my marbles.

That was meant to go into Eric 1313's blog. My bad.

Just catching up on some of my blog reading. You know it took years of me being obnoxious about it for people to understand that while I love chocolate candy, my favorite cake is lemon cake. But like you, I'm not gonna argue if someone's gonna make one for me.
