Summer Writing

May 3rd: This was the first day in almost two weeks that I had a chance to think about writing. It certainly was pleasant. I got one story revised and submitted, and then submitted five poems to a market. Today, Monday, I plan to spend much of my time thinking about how exactly I want to proceed.

My main long-term goal is to finish (or get close anyway) to completing Gods of Talera, the fifth (and last for now) of the Talera series of books. This will be #5.

My first short-term goal is to see Wraith of Talera, the 4th book published. I sort of thought it was going to be published last week so if I don’t hear anything by the end of this week I’ll need to contact the publisher again.

My second short-term goal is to get the rights back to Cold in the Light, my first published novel. The publisher has apparently gone bye-bye and is not responding to my attempts to contact them, but the book is still for sale. I can only assume that I’m not going to get any royalties from any sales that happen now. So, I want the rights back and will then try to sell it elsewhere.

Other goals include, 1) finishing a new Krieg story, which is about 3/4ths done, 2) finishing a horror short story involving Halloween, which is at about the same level of completeness, and 3) finishing a western novella called “The Scarred One,” which is only about 1/5th done. I’ve got two other western stories at various stages of completion that I’d like to get to but don’t know if I’ll have the time.

I’d hoped to be completely out from under being chair of the IRB this summer but it looks like I’ll be stuck with that the first six weeks or so. Unfortunately, that will take a big bite out of my writing time. It’s gonna be a busy summer!

And if you keep dreaming "pig" dreams, you will have to do a Watership Down short story to throw in the mix. You will be busy.

Busy, busy, busy you are, Charles. Submitting to a publishing house usually takes more time than I am willing to give.

Carole, I would actually love to write a good animal tale. I've got one partially done, called Farhaven. Foxes, though, instead of pigs. :)

Oscar, definitely it can be time consuming.

Charles-You are such an ambitious and prolific writer! Take time to enjoy some peace and Lana and things will happen naturally-as it should.

Your energies and ambitions make me feel like a slow moving slug on the sidewalk of life with nothing to show for lack of progress except a slime trail. Hmmmm. I may have to erase that metaphor forever from my arsenal.

At any rate, I wish you great success in all your ventures.

Sorry your publisher went under. Hope you get your rights back.

You make plans that would dis-empower me to the extreme. More power to you!

that is the achievement process, to make the plans

Wow, you've got a lot going on. Good luck with Cold in the Light, that's a tough situation.

Sounds like a good plan! I never think that far ahead but maybe I should. Next goal - building a plan for summer.
I wonder how getting the rights back to your book will go. If they don't exist anymore, who actually owns the rights? How can they own anything?

Charles, I'm bothered about your rights to COLD IN THE LIGHT. I hope you get it back soon.

Jodi, That's the great thing about summer. I get to write, and get sleep and enjoy nature!

Robert, thanks, man. But I move slower than I talk.

Alex, I'm now seeking some legal advice.

Cloudia, this is just fun stuff.

Lisa, it helps.

Greg, yeah, that is one of my best books so I really want something good to happen with it.

Aimless, I wish I knew whether they are still actually printing copies. The sale may be from the copies they already had in stock.

Prashant, I've already spent more time on the issue than I'd like. It's a pain to have to worry about that stuff again.

That is a hefty list of goals, but you will get there!

Riot Kitty, one of the stories is done except for the polishing

I look forward to Wrath of Talera. I wondered what happened with the release. I hope you don't have to go through each separate publishing outlet after getting the rights back for Cold in the Light to have it taken down. I had to do that with a few of mine. It was not fun.
