Mid-terms in. Caught up on Grading for Now

Wow! That was the longest marathon grading session I’ve had in several years. Teaching the writing class is a tremendous investment of time. Plus, the way that Mardi Gras fell in association with mid-terms meant that I had to give two tests in the same week that I got the latest set of writing papers. On top of that I came down with a pretty bad cold that has had me feeling pretty miserable.

I’m glad to have the grading done and have my mid-terms turned in, and I’m feeling a bit better on the cold front. It’s still going to be a busy week catching up with everything I put off while I was grading, but at least I should be able to get a bit more sleep and have a little breathing room.

Now to try and get back into the swing of blogging, and back to doing a little bit of writing. Not one word of new fiction has been completed since the last Sunday in February. I did a little polishing on a rough drafted story but that was about it. I hate to be forced into such long breaks because it sucks so much momentum out of me. Such is the curse of the working man.

I can see from the number of posts in my Google Reader, though, that it’s gonna take me a little while to get caught up. I’ll start tonight but probably won’t finish. Missed everyone.

So nice to see you, but don't over do the blogs. Relax and enjoy!

While I love your comments, I will say, take care, Charles. Be rested for a bit.

I'm taking a week off just to catch up with life. I'm going to get back into writing. I'm trying to stay away from Facebook and my email and to catch up on reading blogs (working on the long term attention span and trying to shelve the short term candy). It's been hard, but worth it.

Hang in there Charles, we only ever have the time we make.
I keep meaning to finish WITCH OF TALERA quick so I can push it as a 'Like John Carter Try this' kinda thing.

We missed you too, Charles. Hope the grading wasn't too difficult

Just catch the posts you want and don't worry about the rest. Glad you're through with midterms.

What Alex said. You stay busy, but don't push it.

Cloudia, indeed. I will try.

M.M., thanks. I was pretty worn out from it all.

Rachel, amazing how quickly we can fall behind with all our committments. Sometimes you've got to just cut out one thing to catch up on others.

David J., I want to do some pushing of the Talera series like that too but man its such the wrong time of the year. SO much school stuff has piled up.

Alex, me too.

Randy, thanks, man.

Charles, welcome back, though it didn't seem like you were away for long. You mentioned getting back to blogging and writing: how much of your writing time does blogging take away? Blogging and commenting can be an endless exercise, so where does one draw the line? Thanks...

Welcome 'home' and it seems you've been gone a long time to me. :) I like to visualize you here blogging away and talking to each of us. This stupid weather has everyone sick--hot days, cold days, wet days, muggy days. Hope you're feeling better.

Thanks for hitting my blog. I can't imagine ever saying anything that would interest you. You sure know how to make an old gal feel special though. You're appreciated!

Nothing takes the fun out of teaching like having to read through stacks of papers. Think summer.

Good to hear that the grading's done and over with!
I hope you manage to find enough time to relax and do what you love most,
cheers,
Merisi

P.S.:
Those pink sugar confections are quite big, at least the equivalent of a large slice of cake. I have never tried one. ;-)

You were definitely missed 'cause I had some good news to share with everyone and you were one of the people I'd singled out for acknowledgement.

It's good to see you back, Charles. I get behind and never seem to catch up. Also, wanted to let you know that I closed down my blog, so you might want to remove the link to Jack Talk from your bloglist.

Prashant, when I'm in my routine, blogging and commenting takes about an hour a day. ON days I post a blog myself it's probably and hour and 15 minutes on average. It does take time but since I don't have a big name I need to make contacts with folks to be able to sell my stuff. Plus, I enjoy all the people I get to meet and interact with here.

Jess, you have all kinds of intersting stuff. Your posts these days are more writing centered than mine generally are.

Ron, I'm thinking it but it doesn't seem to be getting here faster.

Merisi, wow, they look smaller in the photos. I guess I'm thinking of the petit fours Lana brought home recently.

G., oh? Did I miss that post. I'll have to go have a look today.

Jack, thanks for letting me know. I will do that. Hope all is well with you.

work is still the curse of the drinking man... that's why there are summer breaks ;)

am still in the doldrums, writing-wise; at least i take the dog out, regularly

tomorrow and maybe the next day, i'm dog-sitting my brother-in-law's pooch

Indeed, I'd enjoy some time to sip a few brews on my deck.

Oh man, I don't envy you those piles to have graded.

Must be a relief to be done with them.

Charles Gramlich said...

Erik, so very much, although I did have two 'late' papers to deal with.

Sucks about the cold. I'm fighting some symptoms presently, but I refuse to give in.

Travis Cody, I think I'm pretty much over mine finally. Thank goodness. I hate being sick.
