Looks like it’s going to be a busy fall for me. But I’m looking forward to it. I’ll be going to both “Undead Con” in late October, and to CONtraflow in early November. Both are local New Orleans cons and I’ll be sitting on panels with some talented folks.
Undead Con is put on by Anne Rice’s Vampire Lestat Fan Club. All kinds of exciting things are happening there, including the Annual Vampire Ball, which is the place to be in New Orleans for Halloween. This year the events will be held October 28-29.
CONtraflow is November 4-6, and David Brin will be the author guest of honor. Since I’ve got a lot of his books, I’ll be looking forward to meeting him and getting his autograph. There are many other great guests as well. I’m not sure what panels I’ll be sitting on yet but no doubt I will have fun.
If you’re gonna be in the area at either of these times, or both, I’d love to see you.

Dave Brin is a great guy. He was a GOH at BayCon way back when, '83 or something like that. I went to one of his panels, then went looking for his books. Excellent writer and speaker; I'm sure you'll enjoy meeting him.
Angie
Wish I could make it but alas...no.
You have a good time though.
me neither, since i'm in the east side of the Pond. have a good time, Charles!
Have a great time at both!
The Vampire Ball should be a real hoot. I know you'll enjoy those cons and the panels you're on. Don't forget the camera, especially at the Vamp Ball. :)
As much as I love fantasy, magic and the undead, I pity people who walk around wishing they were vampires. The Vampire ball might not be so bad, but I have been to many cons and at one there was a "vampire wedding". Both the groom and the bridal party walked around separately, slowly, getting everyone's attention, staring and saying nothing to anyone that noticed them or wished them well, or just said hello... a bit more like undying dooshbags than anything else. This went on for about 4 or 5 hours before the wedding.
Then they played some live-action vampire:the masquerade. I thought it would have been funny to drop a die20 and proclaim a critical hit with my Holy Avenger +5 dealing triple damage, but felt restrained from such taunting banter. Instead I was satisfied to know that I've slain many pretend vampires since my pre-teens and would slay many more and these would be no more challenge than any.
Other than that, cons do tend to be a blast!
That's cool you get to sit in on some panels. Sorry, too far away for me.
Angie, for hard SF I don't know anyone better than Brin. His uplift war stuff was just magnificient.
David J., yeah, I imagine that would be a long drive for most of my blog pals.
Deka, our community is certainly far flung. :)
Paul, thankee, man.
Bernardl, Lana will be going with me to the vamp ball so I know she'll have her camera.
Eric1313, there are people who take costuming too seriously, for sure. I don't understand it, but at at least for the most part they are harmless.
Alex, I know. Most of my blog friends are a good way away from here.
Cons I would enjoy, Charles. I don't seem to get to as many as I use to.
Hope you have a lot of fun at both, and congrats on being on panels for both!
Oh, that undead con sounds brilliant.
David Cranmer, I actually go to more now than I did in younger days, although I probably would have loved them even more then. I didn't really know much about them.
Greg, thanks. I'm looking forward to both.
Pattinase, I expect it will be. This will be my first Undead con. I'm not sure what to expect.
Yay! I bet it's going to be fun. I'm very excited for you, hon!
Charles-Altho I love Lestat, I will not be attending any 'cons'!
Lana, thank you sweety.
Jodi, I bet you would enjoy something like that. Long way though for sure. :)
Oh yes, I have seen their displays quite often. Most of the time they are pretty cool, but those ones at that particular con were rather douchy about it.
Wish I lived closer - those sound like fun. I hope you have a blast doing them.
Eric1313, there are always a few folks who delight in being buttholes. Sad to say.
Kate, I'm sure I will. thanks.
Haha, it's early days yet, but there's a pretty good chance a certain dreadlocked expat will be in New Orleans that October weekend as well! :D
I bumped into David Brin last week. He recognized me and asked how he knew me, and I proceeded to describe a conversation we had had at a conference. He looked more and more confused and then a lightbulb went on and he said, "You're confusing me with Greg Benford."
When you meet him, don't do that.

Oops.
When you meet him, don't do that.
I see we don't have to worry about you having a slow fall! ;-)
good stuff, charles...
once i win the lotto, i'll fly down in my private air yacht ;) lol
Steve Malley, that would be seriously cool, man.
Shauna, lol. I will try not to do so. It will help that I've never met him or Greg Benford.
Merisi, nope. I might be kind of glad when it's over even.
Laughingwolf, I'm sure that'll be any time now. :)
The Undead Con & Vampire Ball sounds like alotta fun. How neat you will be sitting in on some panels... fall is the best season of the year in my opinion.
I hope you have fun at the cons!
if only! lol
Ahhhhhh would love the Undead Con....I love Vampire Lestat....Ahhhh alas I am way too far....:( have fun. Take pics and post so we can see pretty please:)
Jodi, I like fall much myself. And this will be my first time at the vampire ball so I'm really looking forward to it.
The Golden Eagle, thanks. I'm sure I will.
laughingwolf, yeah, me too.
Drizel, will do.
Pretty cool that you are going to be sitting on panels. That means you are getting up there in the writing world. Congrats
