Saints Win! & Face Book

Whoooo Hoooo! The Saints pretty much decimated the Cardinals to win their first playoff game of the season. I’m ecstatic. The game started out dangerously. The Cardinal’s running back, Hightower, broke for a touchdown on the very first play from scrimmage. But this Saints team isn’t gonna roll over for anyone. They scored touchdowns on their first three possessions to take a lead that they never gave up. The Cardinals did score a second touchdown to close the gap to 21 to 14, but after that it was all Saints for a final score of 45 to 14. The player of the game was Reggie Bush, who ran smash mouth football in the first half and had over 200 all purpose yards, including a rushing touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown. Next week we’ll play for the NFC championship against either the Cowboys or the Vikings. GO SAINTS!

In other news, our Department Chair created a Face Book account for our department, though I’m not exactly sure why, and I had to join in order to see it. I’ve been intending to join Face Book for quite a while anyway, so this was as good of an excuse as any to set up a page. I think it’ll actually be more convenient to post albums of pictures than it would be to load those to the blog. If you’re on Face Book then friend me. If you want to see my page it’s here.

I’m still trying to take weekends off of blogging and I’m not going to “replace” that with Face Book. I don’t plan to spend lots of time there. I have too many writing projects that I want to complete. But I will try to keep a regular presence since it will help me make contact with folks that I don’t see on the blog. Already I’ve connected to quite a few of my old high school colleagues who are not regular bloggers.

Again, GO SAINTS!

Charles, as past cheerleader, I give the saints a high kick and a pom pom shake! Do not, I repeat, do not, get sucked into the vortex of facebook! Have a great weekend!

Good to see you on FB.

That was a damned exciting first half -- saw it at the gym (are we all multi-taskers now?)

Congrats to the Saints. If the Cowboys beat the Vikings, I want them to destroy them. If the Vikings win, I'll have to go with my old town boys . . .

Facebook is like playing with fire, but here goes . . .

Geaux Saints! Sorry about FB. <:(

Please specify w or w/o photo on facebook. Yes, seems unlikely, but there it is.

if you don't friend me, I'll cry. Srsly.

Charles, I reserved a Facebook name about two weeks ago but I can't bring myself to initiate it yet.

Who dat?

When they scored in the first play of the game it was an "UH OH" moment for us. We thought we were in for a long night. I'm so glad they won and I am eager to find out who the Saints get to beat next.

I'm going to look you up on Facebook. I don't spend much time on there but I have been pleasantly surprised with the number of old friends that I've reconnected with.

Word to the wise? Avoid Farmville. It is more sinister than Children of the Corn in its ability to waste time :)

I've enjoyed connecting with all sorts of people of Facebook, but SO FAR have not been overly sucked in. ;)

so you're saying the Saints are Marching In?

Middle Ditch said...

I'll try and find you on FB

Cinnamon said...

facebook is like waving to someone across the street!

Christine Purcell said...

Yay Facebook! It's a great way to keep in touch with friends, but people will try to get you to play horrible, time-sucking games.

And I agree with Jennifer; don't play Farmville unless you hate your life :)

Greg Schwartz said...

congrats on the Saints win! my Ravens... not so lucky.

Hello Charles, congratulations on the Saints and FB. I think you will enjoy FB.

jodi, I’m going to try just a “little” face book. And I hope that isn’t famous last words.

Sidney, I didn’t know so many folks were already there.

Erik Donald France, when I’m a fan of a team, a blow out is still exciting and I prefer that over the ‘excitement’ of a close game. I’m looking forward to seeing the game today.

Lana Gramlich, I’ll be careful!

ArtSparker, I never imagined there’d be another Charles Gramlich on there. I’m the one with the photo from Louisiana.

writtenwyrdd, taken care of. :)

David Cranmer, maybe you can see whether it destroys me before you decide. I’ll be like the canary in the mine.

jennifer, I know, I was NOT happy at that. But these Saints seem to thrive on having to fight their way out of a hole, and they sure did yesterday. Advice taken on Farmville

Barrie, I hope to follow your model then.

Mark, they marched in and conquered yesterday. I sure hope they can keep it up.

Middle Ditch, under Charles Gramlich, and the one with the picture!

Cinnamon, you know, that’s not too bad. I’m not a huge visiting type of person.

Christine Purcell, I’m gonna try to avoid those. Oh I hope I can. I’ve never heard of Farmville.

Greg Schwartz, I saw that. I like the colts but I was kinda hoping for the Ravens. I figured we’d have a better chance with them than the Colts.

Ocean Girl, thanks, and so far so good.

Congrats on the dominating win!

I detest both Minnesota and Dallas, but since they can't both lose today I guess I'll root more against the Vikings than Cowboys.

I still haven't joined FB. I guess I just haven't been convinced of the advantages.

Middle Ditch said...

Love the farmville warnings. It's just a silly game. One of many.

Found you!!

This is the most valuable piece of advice anyone will ever give you for FB:

Your homepage is full of updates on what we're all up to. ON the right hand side of that feed, if you mouse over, is a little button marked 'IGNORE' or 'HIDE' or something.

By clicking it, you can choose not to see how often SQT and I level up in Mafia Wars, who's fighting vampires today or who just got a cow in Farmville. You'll still see what we're really up to, but not how we're wasting our time.

Your sanity may depend on it! ;-p

Since the Lions are the team from hell, maybe I will adopt the Saints. Go Saints.

G said...

Congrats on the Saints.

Now I just have to pay off a bet I lost on FB with my friend who is diehard Colts fan.

Which means I have to write...yeech...a poem in tribute to the Colts and post it on my blog...

help?

Oh yeah...FB is both a blessing and a curse....but right now, I'll take it over the chat rooms hands down.

Charles Gramlich said...

Travis, I've generally liked the Vikings OK but am not a big fan. I particularly dislike the Cowboys though.

Middle Ditch, I still don't really have an idea what it is but I don't plan to get into any online games that way.

Steve Malley, thanks for the info. I'll make sure I do that.

pattinase, Lots of people have adopted the Saints this year, I think.

G, egads, you got yourself into it with the COlts poem eh? Poor dude

I connect better with bloggers on a higher level than facebook. Facebook is a very different type of connection.

Kindest regards,
Tom Bailey

Aha! So now you're on Facebook. It's almost a prerequiste. But beware of Twitter, it's from the dark side...

cs harris said...

One of these days I guess I need to suck it up and join Facebook.

And while I was born without the team gene, I gotta say, I'm really glad they won!

Charles Gramlich said...

Cloudia, blogging is where I'm really committed.

Tom Bailey, I can see that already. This is much more my style.

Rick, I'm definitely not doing Twitter. I suspect it's already on it's way out.

Candy, it would appear that football is about the only place wehre my latent team gene functions.

The turnovers were real back-breakers in that game. The Cardinal player that intercepted a pass at the beginning and then had it stripped for a fumble was the turning point of the game to me.

Michelle's Spell said...

Hey Charles,

Go Saints! God knows, we in Detroit do not really have what could be considered a professional football team. I'm with my girl Jodi on not getting sucked into facebook --I only use it as a way people can find me to email me. I refuse to take any quizzes on it!

laughingwolf said...

huzzah saints!

as for facebook, i think i have/had an account there... once

L.A. Mitchell said...

Okay, Charles, since the Boys are out, I cannot tell you how badly I want your Saints to win next weekend. And run up the score on them...TWICE!!

Go Saints!! ;)

ivan said...

I can't access my own Facebook account because I haven't got Firefox and Mozilla.

Indeed. Feeling like a half-f*cked fox in a forest fire.

Charles Gramlich said...

BernardL, that was great hustle on the part of the Saints player. A big problem for the Cardinals too is that they just didn't tackle well.

Michelle, I'm going to do as minimum as possible on Facebook, but I have found some folks I hadn't seen in years.

laughingwolf, I actually had an account on My space but never used it. Good thing I didn't waste my time there.

L.A. Mitchell, I'm with you! I see you are just a wonderful person!

ivan, it's all techie connect stuff now. I don't know half the time what I'm doing. But that's never stopped me.

I joined FB recently (and reluctantly) too, and I've been surprised by how useful it is for both self-marketing and keeping in touch.

Voidwalker said...

Facebook is a bit overrated, but it is what it is. I'm on there, but it can get overwhelming very quickly because of all the little things everyone is updating and posting. I had to back down from it to be able to focus on my blog.

As for the Saints' victory, yeah, I live in AZ so I got a lot of grief recently for that, but luckily I don't care a smidge about football so I was able to brush it off. :)

pattinase (abbott) said...

I would love to swear off blogging on weekends. But I wake up and have to see what's going on.

Charles Gramlich said...

benjibopper, I'm hoping the self marketing aspects will be helpful for sure.

Voidwalker, don't care about football? Don't care about football? Dude! I'm speechless right now. :

pattinase, I have successfully fought down the urge so far.

Rick said...

I've been thinking about Facebook, and it's sort of weird that businesses and universities have their own Facebook accounts. I wonder if someone will combine them with websites?

Charles Gramlich said...

Rick, I know. I'm not sure why our psych dept needs one, though maybe it's meant to be a recruiting tool. I guess I'll find out what it does for us.

Rachel said...

FB can be a fun place to hang and you might like it. I fell into letting it take over for a bit and so now I'm limiting my FB time. Going back to reading blogs where the thought is complete and over 150 words.
