September Updates

I was interviewed today by Ann Gilbert for Inside Northside Magazine. They’re doing a feature on “Writers of the North Shore.” This means the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. New Orleans and its suburbs are on the south shore, and the two areas are connected by the Causeway Bridge, which I blogged about yesterday. If it hadn’t of been for Lana and the wonderful folks at the Abita Springs Library, Ann probably wouldn’t have found out about me. So I thank them for keeping my name out there. I’m going to officially name Lana my publicist. I hope she doesn’t ask for a raise, although going from nothing to something might not require a huge layout of cash for me. Maybe I can pay her in dinners at Trey Yuen restaurant. She loves eating there. As do I.

Inside Northside is a very nice, slick production and Ann told me it is mailed to 40,000 homes as well as distributed to local libraries and such. That’ll be more people than have ever seen one of my short stories or novels, I would imagine. Oh well, I suppose soon the paparazzi will be following me around. Fame! It’s just so demanding.

In other news, I’ve added quite a few new links to my blog. Unified Sci Fi forums is a site where folks come to discuss SF, Fantasy and Horror. I’ve probably mentioned that I’m the horror moderator there. To my links on the “Louisiana Connection,” I’ve added “Ms. Mentor’s Column.” This is the work of Emily Toth, a professor at Louisiana State University who is also in my writing group. Ms. Mentor dispenses advice to troubled and not so troubled academics, often with an edge of acerbic wit. There are a bunch of new folks added at the bottom of my “Blogs” link. These are folks whose blogs I visit and who have been visiting here. I’ll try to put up a more writing related post tomorrow.

Back in the Saddle

I rolled back into home late last night and did nothing but rest and cuddle Lana, who I had missed about like one misses a lost limb. Today I'm blogging again and doing various errands that have gotten ahead of me, including groceries and checking out a new used bookstore in the area. (Yes, checking out bookstores is a part of my job, not a luxury.)

On the writing front, I'm a week behind but will try to start catching up tomorrow. I had a nice interview/article run on me in the Xavier University Newsletter. If you're interested it's about 2/3rds of the way down under the title "Psychology Professor Has Tales to Tell." There's a picture of me that looks like I'm preaching the gospel. (Now there's a scary thought.) Other than calling Cold in the Light Cold in the Night it's well done and quite flattering. In fact, a lot of people have said good things about me lately, including Steve Malley and some of his commentators. HA HA HA HAHA. I have them fooled!

I got my author copies for Swords of Talera and Wings Over Talera, as well as a few author discount copies that I ordered. I'd orginally planned to go up to Arkansas in July and have a signing when I saw my mom, but her hospital stay threw that off a bit. I can always go back, although I don't want to make that 9 and 1/2 hour drive again right now.

I hope by tomorrow I'll be able to get back to posting some more writing related stuff. Was good to check everyone's blog today. Thanks everyone for your overwhelming support. It means a lot.

The Interview

I was flattered to have Shauna Roberts ask if I minded doing an interview on her blog. She asked some good and tough questions that really made me think. But it was fun, and the results are at her For Love of Words blog. Email interviews seem like an exciting way to do this sort of thing. I did one a couple of years back for Cold in the Light, and I conducted one with Charles Nuetzel, who I’ve mentioned here before as a writer of Sword and Planet fiction. I haven’t seen many on blogs yet but I think it’s a great concept.

Shauna is herself quite an interesting person. She dwells in New Orleans and makes her living primarily as a freelance science and medical writer. She also writes fiction and is particularly fond of the genres of fantasy, SF and romance. Shauna has written on numerous topics, and has even coauthored a book on Rhesus monkeys.
