Killing Trail was
the first item I self published, back in 2010. This 24,000 word collection of
western tales has been among my better sellers, but hasn’t sold much of
anything over the last six months.
When I first put the book up, I knew
relatively little about formatting an ebook and setting up a clickable table of
contents. I’ve decided to reissue the book in an updated version with a clickable
TOC. The stories themselves are not changed so if you’ve
already bought this book don’t buy it again. In fact, I think Amazon is
supposed to let those who bought it know about the update and provide it to
them free of charge. I don’t know how that works because I haven’t done this
before. But let me know if you have the book and get a notice about the new
version. Or if you don’t get a notice and want the clickable TOC version let me
know and I can get it to you.
I also uploaded a new cover for the
book, which contains the pseudonym, Tyler Boone. I’ve got several more
western stories in the planning phase and when I do publish them they’ll go up
under the Tyler Boone name.
If you haven’t read the
Killing Trail collection already, I hope you’ll give it a
look see now. Here’s the link to Amazon. The book is also up for the Nook but I’ve not yet changed the cover there. Since
sales on Nook have been very very very minimal, I’m not sure I’ll bother to make the change.

Congratulations, Charles! Smart to update it. Bet it looks a lot better inside and out.
Congrats, Charles

My reading history has a decided lack of westerns (even though I LOVE the genre). However, I blew through this one very quickly. So, I am looking forward to more westerns from Tyler Boone. :)
Alex, you live and learn. At least that's the plan. :)

Tom, I have three Tyler Boone tales in the planning stage. or partially written.
Good luck, Charles!
Tyler Boone... cool name!
True, cool name and cover, Charles. I'm heading over to Amazon to buy it right away.
I am impressed with how you keep up with all this... I need to download it to my Nook (I don't have a kindle) as the western themes sound interesting.
Vesper, I rather like it. Maybe I'll just change my real name. :)
Prashant, thanks. I hope you enjoy!
Sage, I'm also getting the urge to write some more western stuff. Been reading it again, getting the itch.
Good western collection. I enjoyed it very much. I hope the new presentation boosts it up again.
Bernard, that would be nice!
How did you come up with the pseudonym? Just curious.
I loved this collection. The stories reminded me how much I used to love reading Zane Grey novels. In fact, I did reconnect with a few ZG stories after I finished Killing Trail.
Nice work on the update.
I AM WRITING IN CAPS JUST TO SAY THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST BOOK OF SHORT WESTERNS I HAVE EVER READ. Buy it, it's well worth the entertainment and unexpected outcomes.
Riot Kitty. I like the name Boone. Have used it for characters in my westerns before. I tried a number of combinations before I found something I liked to go with it, and that sounded western to my ears.
Travis Cody, thanks, man. I appreciate those kind words. I've still got a few ZGs around the house to read. Haven't read them all yet.
Mark, thanks, man! I'm glad you liked it. I sure worked hard on it.
I'm confused about the "writing as" part. I recall that Max Brand, for example, was the nom de plume of a man who had many nom de plumes, but if he had put his real name of the cover above the words "writing as," wouldn't everyone have ignored the nom de plume? It seems to me to be, in effect, a case of saying that you're writing as someone else when you're really not, as can seen by the presence of your real name.
Snowbrush, the writing as is 'usually' done when a writer wrote books under a different name earlier in their career but then got famous under their own name. however, I'm doing it here because I plan to release three books with just the name "Tyler Boone" on it.
That's a really cool cover!

Guess that means my copy of the original cover is now a collector's item. Every success with the relaunch.
