Placeholder Post

I feel like I've offered very little of value here on the blog since my Days of Beer series, but school has been kicking my butt and I've had several writing deadlines that I've been trying to meet. This week is preregistration at school, which will be very demanding, and Josh's court date has been moved to tomorrow. Please send us some good wishes that that goes well. But for these reasons I'm not going to be keeping up with blogging very much this week.

I'm reading a good book, though, called The Ruins by Scott Smith. Stephen King called it "The Best horror novel of the new century." I don't know if I could agree with that but it's pretty good so far. I'm about half way through it. They made a movie from this but I didn't see it. I'll have more to say about the book when I finish.

Also, Writtenwyrd's Halloween Cthulhu contest posts are up here. There are some good flash fictions up there by a variety of anonymous writers, and you can read them and vote on your favorite. The winner will get a plush cthulhu.

Now, busy, busy, busy.

Hope Josh's lawyer has to talked to or (greased?) the chief of police.
While acting as a barrack room lawyer in a similar case, I made sure I talked to all involved. Game plan. Best to show the defendan's status in community, his accomplishments. Also make the judge aware the fact that he is very upset and if necessary, try for another remand...But then you have no time.
Touch of off-the-wall humour here:
The rich don't go to jail.
(I tried to remember that when I was in trouble, but ended up in the cuckoo ward...Didn't see that one coming!)
the Cthulhu contest: Wow. Busy place!
Durn that Lovecraft: dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.
In my usual off-the-wall sense of humour, I guess necrophiliacs looking for dead ones would be out of luck. Eek.

Whoa, I've always wanted a -- what was that again? A Cthulhu? Don't have any idea what it is, but it sounds VERY Welsh.

And I will send you all the good thoughts I can!

I sincerely hope that the court case goes well.

I know I felt quite defenceless when one involved one of my own sons. He's no Saint but because he did have a good record (in fact NO record) he had the book thrown at him "as an example". Thankfully it involved a fine and a ban rather than a prison sentence.

As you know, all we can do as parents is be there for them when they need us to be.

Good luck!

Charles, sometimes life just gets in the way. Enjoy it for what it brings. Good wishes for your son. That shit is tough.

You just let me know what I can do to help you, baby.

H. E., thankee. I hope so.

Pattinase, thanks.

Laurie, I appreciate the sentiment.

Ivan, I hope so too where Josh's lawyer is concerned. They had a wide variety of entries in the cthulhu contest.

Mary witzl, I take it you are not up on your H. P. Lovecraft. He invented the Cthulhu mythos, stories about ancient gods. And thanks for the thoughts.

Miladysa, the lawyer says he shouldn't get any jail time. I'm just praying for that.

Daniel, thanks.

Jodi, indeed it does.

Lana, I'm looking forward to seeing you this evening sweetness.

Gary, thanks. I appreciate it.

Just now sending a boatload of good wishes your way for Josh and the court day. You sound like you and Lana and family could use an all expense paid vacation!

And I'd be interested in what you think about "The Ruins."

Charles Gramlich said...

Laughingwolf, thankee.

Rick, I have some not so positive and some positive statements about The ruins and will let you know when I finish. Which shouldn't be too long.

I hear you Charles! You hang in there! I'm holding steady too but will soon be overwhelmed with papers right before Thanksgiving.

You have my well wishes. I saw the movie for THE RUINS. Hopefully the book was nothing like the movie because I really didn't like the movie. :-/

'Best horror novel of the new century'.... Hope Stephen's son Joe doesn't see that blurb. Should be a fun family dinner!

Cthulhu. What's a cthulhu? An urban diction?

But don't worry Charles, I'm sure Wiki will give me the answer. You and Josh take care and take it easy. I think it'll be a good father son time and experience.

Keep calm in court and don't let them rush you into a pleas that Josh would have to live with. force them to drop the charges or go to trial. Negotiate well.

Good luck with everything - I know how hard it is to balance blogging, work and family time - just a note to let you know that it's much appreciated!

I hope things went well. I'm keeping good thoughts. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the Ruins. It's good to see you blog, when you can, even if you don't feel that you have much to blog about. I always find it interesting. It doesn't always have to be something fancy.

I hope everything went well for you yesterday. I've been thinking about you and your son-- just so you know you're in our thoughts.

I hope everything went well in court, Charles.
We'll be here when you can find the respite to return...

And I'm looking forward to your review of The Ruins. I'm especially curious about the positive things... :-) I personally felt deceived by King's statement.

You get so much done!
