Good choices on the books. If you're like me(god forbid), you can probably make numerous four book lists.

pattinase (abbott) said...

Yes, four books is not enough. Nor four movies.

Cloudia said...

Fun. Thanks Charles.
I resonate with your "four places."
Aloha! Here's a cool Waikiki Web Cam adress to paste in your browser:

I have an old hard bound copy of 'The Hour of the Dragon' from a Sci/Fi fantasy book club I belonged to back in the middle seventies. I refuse to say how many times I've reread that book. :)

Are you aware that you have a wiki ?

Did you write it ?

Thought I'd check ya out, over from Wilharrison.com

Scott D. Parker said...

I was close to picking ST2 but, since I haven't seen in awhile, I didn't. And TOS is always fun to rewatch.

Oh, and pork chops! Drool!

David Cranmer said...

I'm with you and Scott on Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. That is hands down the finest Trek movie to date.

Charles Gramlich said...

Randy Johnson, maybe more like you than either of us would like to admit, my friend. But yes, depending on the moment of the day, my book list could easily change.

pattinase (abbott), I could add a little to the movies, but a lot to the books.

Cloudia, I’ll check out the cam.

BernardL, I have that one too, but the one I’ve read most is the paperback from Berkeley.

moonrat, I’ve only actually seen Legends of the Fall. I see you like high ground. Have never watched any of those shows. Sushi, yes!

Jonny M, Yes, I knew about the Wiki and I know who wrote it. Thanks for dropping by. I appreciate it.

Scott Parker, I’ll rewatch most of the Star Trek stuff given the chance. Yes, I’m hungry for pork chops even as we speak.

David Cranmer, Lana agrees with us too. We rank it as not only the best Trek movie, but one of our favorite all time SF movies.

I enjoy when you do memes. This one looked fun!

Charles - Thanks for stopping over...I might have to pick up a copy of Cold in the Light...Sounds intriguing...I am very into hybrid genre books...I think this probably isn't the greatest example, but my favorite books series ever is The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Great hybrid (in my non writers opinion) of the fantasy/sci-fi/western genres.

My wife bought me a copy of Where the wild things are for our 3rd anniversary and I decided not to open it until we have our first child so I could give it to him/her (Hopefully him)

I re-posted this over here in case you weren't much for re-checking post comments

Carnivores rule.

writtenwyrdd said...

I'm a self-described cheerful carnivore, but I have to say my favorite foods are pasta, breads, noodles or other squishy foods. I just love that stuff. And cheese.

I might have to play this one, too. Maybe Saturday.

laughingwolf said...

neat stuff, charles... will ponder on it ;)

Charles Gramlich said...

Steve Malley, yeah, not bad.

Jonny M, I like those kinds of books too but it made it hard finding a publisher. I haven't read the Dark Tower books, except for the first one. I've read a lot of other King, though.

Travis Erwin, amen brother.

writtenwyrdd, Lana is much like you. she loves her pasta. BTW, I tried to post a couple of times on your blog today but couldn't get it to accept my entry.

laughingwolf, enjoy.

Erik Donald France said...

That's strong, straight, and admirable.

Have you ever seen the Western, Duel at Diablo?

the walking man said...

Write a dozen more books, read at least 5,000 more

Find a comfortable place to park and commence with read and write more than you already do.

Chris Benjamin said...

a few things we share anyway: love for the wrath of khan + desire to see the mayan ruins.

riding a motorbike also sounds fun but i've yet to learn that trick.

Charles Gramlich said...

Erik, I haven't seen that one. I've found out recently from other bloggers that there's a lot of westerns I haven't seen and want to.

Mark, this summer I'm living the dream, writing and reading 15 hours a day at least.

benjibopper, I loved riding but it's the other people that kill you.

j said...

You know, it's sort of bad and sort of good, but most books that I re-read are like reading them for the first time. I have a terrible memory. Kind of like deja vu reading.

Woo Hoo! It's almost the weekend!

Shauna Roberts said...

I'm going to have to check out The Hour of the Dragon since you and BernardL both name it as a favorite. And I'm with you on "Wrath of Khan." I want to write a character like Khan someday.

Shauna Roberts said...

I just got The Hour of the Dragon for my Kindle for 87¢!

pattinase (abbott) said...

At some point, NIP TUCK became a horror story. Oh, yeah, that's why you like it but it scares me.

Travis Cody said...

That's a pretty cool meme. I haven't done one like this in awhile.

Ello - Ellen Oh said...

No tagging is a good policy!

And I don't know if I knew the Trekkie side of you Charles! Is Lana a Trekkie too?

I have to ask, how many blogs do you have in your reader? How do you control it?

Charles Gramlich said...

jennifer, for me it depends on the time in my life when I read them. I remember books from my young days very well. I remember books now pretty well, but from about 96 to 2006, when I was under a whole lot of stress, I don't remember them nearly as well.

Shauna Roberts, yes, Khan was a great character. I thought Montalban was perfect for the role. Cool on the Kindle Hour of the Dragon. It's good stuff.

pattinase (abbott), it's one of the few series I've ever watched that almost always surprises me. And yeah, I like the horror elements.

Travis, it was fun.

Ello, I'm a fan boy from way back. I have 130 blogs in my reader but fortunately not everyone posts every day. One thing I also do is hardly ever respond to more than one post from a person in a day, even though quite a few people post more than once a day. I also hardly ever watch the vidoes that people post, which tends to eat up a lot of time.

Barbara Martin said...

Four books and four movies is definitely not enough. Travis should like your food choices, by the way. Meat eaters unite.

Silver Dollar City! God, I haven't been there since I was a kid.

Ah well.

Hardly say you're a Southerner..
(for Four Places You Have Lived).

Canada's Hank Snow once sang,"Hello to the Southland, I'm coming to you."
And what was wrong with that?
Been there and loved it.
Agree with you on the chicken, especially in Chattanooga.nothin' like southern cookin'.
But I've been to London, Bonn, Brussels, Copenhagen--and (God help us!) Haiti...I needed some cheap place to relax after a negative experience with my shrink, who, I think, was trying to turn me into a turnip.
Except for Baby Doc, the chicken there was unbelievable too. Dive resorts offer great fare.
But I myself became chicken when chased by the -Tonton Macoute (a term for bogeyman in Haiti's Creole dialect) --brutes.
..Jesus. Out of the trying pan and, iterally (after seeing voodoo dancers around a a flaming pit)--into the fire. And then the Ton-Tonton Macoutes seemingly after me on a moolit beach just south of the voodoo dancers doing the frug on hot coals.
Men with guns and shrunken heads make me nervous.
Hah. Escape one shrink and end up with some real pros after you. :)

Sam said...

The Grand Canyon - yes, definitely a must-see!!

Charles Gramlich said...

Barbara Martin, Meat eaters unite indeed. We're a pretty big and diverse group, united by your love of meat.

Wil, There's one actually not far from where I grew up. Went there during my first honeymoon, but it was wife's choice.

ivan, the only foreign country I've been to is Canada, although I used to want to travel. Not so much these days.

Sam, we watch all the shows about it. Wanna go on that skywalk thingie they recently opened.

Heff said...

Andy Griffith, not my favorite show, but otherwise interesting answers.

Charles Gramlich said...

Heff, I find Barney very funny. I like how he keeps his one bullet all shiny in his pocket.

Ray said...

David Gemmell - yep.
Childhood's End - never read it since being trapped underground on a tube train in the 60s. Down there long enough to read the entire book - and then the tube started moving.

Charles Gramlich said...

Ray, I've liked everything I've read by Gemmell so far. Still got about 15 books to read.

Lana Gramlich said...

gAs you've said..."Never get between a man & his chicken." ;) *LOL*

Lana Gramlich said...

Hmmm...that was "As you've said." Not sure where that "g" came from...

X. Dell said...

You know, seems like the words "biker" and "carnivore" seem to go together.

Vesper said...

I loved your lists, Charles! :-)

Merisi said...

"A book signing for my NY Times Bestseller" - I am sure your time will come! (I hope you will come to Vienna to present the German translation!)

Mary Witzl said...

I used to love Andy Griffith. And I thought the Alien series of movies was fantastic. Weird combination, really, but there it is.

I want to see the Mayan ruins too!

Charles Gramlich said...

Lana Gramlich, not sure about the G, although it's appropriate. But yes, this is a truism.

X. Dell, yes, unfortuntely, if bikers are starving they can't kill and eat their bikes. I suppose they might manage the leather seats.

Vesper, thankee!

Merisi, I'm sure my publisher will send me on an extensive tour of all the European literary hotspots!

Mary Witzl, yeah, now that you mention it, it does seem a little weird. hum.
