Strange Worlds Contest
Although our first faculty meeting is Wednesday, January 7th, I started back to work myself yesterday, Monday, the 5th. I had a lot to do to get ready for classes, and I accomplished quite a bit. But I still have more things to get done today. Since I quite possibly won’t be able to post much or get around to blogs until late in the week or even the weekend, I thought this might be as good a time as any to run a contest.
I’m giving away a copy of Strange Worlds of Lunacy, subtitled “The Galaxy’s Silliest Anthology.” I have a fantasy story in it called “Mirthgar.” And there are over fifty other humorous stories, mostly SF and fantasy, as well as some very funny illustrations. That’s 206 pages of zaniness.
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post. I’ll even sign my story if you’d like. Today is January 6th, so I’ll run the contest until January 20 and then will randomly select a winner.
Good luck to everyone!
PS: For information about how you can help Travis Erwin and his family, who lost their house to fire, please see THIS SITE set up by Stephen Parrish.

I'm first, I'm first. I hope I win a signed copy. Yay! :-)
I'd love to win a copy. Mirthgar sound Tolkienesque. And yes, if I'm lucky enough to win, please sign it.
Kick Ass ! Heff MAY have an opportunity to read !
Free book?
I'll throw my hat in!
The other day I was watching Journey to the Centre of the Earth with my youngest daughter E who is 7.
E (being interested in these kind of stories) correctly identified some kind or prehistoric creatures the name of which I can't even spell. Someone in the film had been killed and these creatures were supposed to have done the deadly deed.
"Not possible," said E.
"What?"
"That they did it."
"Why not?"
"They're vegetarians."
That's my attempt at zany - it's as good as it gets...
A comment saying anything?
Well, if there is a tolien theme...
Elen sil lumen omentielvo!
Sounds like fun. Starts to a semester are brutal.
I've truly been meaning to obtain one of your books for some time. but which one? Should I ask you for a recommend? Then this contest! A great re-intro to SF PLUS reading you in context of peers. Wishing you a good semester. Oh, and . .
Me. Pick ME!!! PLEEEEEZE!!!!
Aloha ;-> (signed? YES PLEASE!!)
Wow just a post to enter? I probably would have posted a comment anyway. :-)
I've been more descriptive about the 'force field'
(That's 2 comments :D Bet only one counts though right?)
Well, I did do my thesis on MAD Magazine.
And during hard research, I may have thrown something familiar at my keeper.
Also bird watching among the therapeutic fountains.
...Leave no tern unstoned!
Thorough!
Ein vogelkopf.
Sounds like something I would get a kick out of reading.
I want a signed copy Charles!!!!
And you are so much better than me. I am so behind on preparing for classes already! I know I am being so bad...
I'd like to snag me a copy of that there book, so sign me up, please.
Welcome back to classes and meetings, Charles.
It would be fun to receive a book with one of your stories, Charles. Count me in for the draw.
You better believe that if I were to win, I would want your autograph! This is a REALLY cool giveaway!
I hope that your week goes smoothly. There is a lady on my blogroll who is a college professor (Well Behaved Krissy). She posted about back to school today as well. You might want to check her blog out - she is a nut!! As well as a communications professor at UAH.
*fingers crossed hoping I win the book because I NEED a little zany in my life :)
Random selection, is that some kind of Darwinian thing?
Good luck getting the semester in full tilt. And don't mind the bend sinisters too much. . .
I love SF and fantasy humor! [crossing fingers]
Angie
You teachaholic you. Are you putting up colored construction paper cut outs for the incoming class?
Too cool! Pick me! And definitely signed please!
A fabulous chance to explore the work of some writers I haven't added to my shelf yet!
Count me in. :)
I don't do tags. But if I DID tag folks, you would be one of them. Of course for this comment to make ANY sense you would have to read my post for today.... keeping in mind that I don't tag.
:)
I'm sorry your vacation's over, baby. I love you. Very kind of you to hold this contest.
Enter me, please. ;)
Hi All, just checking in between meetings. Several down, one more to go today.
Thanks everyone for the comments. You are all entered. Except For Lana of course. She gets the grand prize instead.
Despite the fact I have never, ever won anything raffle, lottery or contest related (except that one dance contest in the eighties which I'd rather not talk about), I'm putting my name in.
Good luck with the back-to-school prep.
Hey Charles,
I'm lucky number 28! Signed free copy -- yay! Going back to work is always a pain. Hope the transition goes smoothly.
I'm somewhere in the middle.
I like free.
Too bad the word "free" is a dirty word in state government.
And here is wishing you the best of luck in molding the minds of tomorrow, for they are the ones that will be in charge when we're old and gray.
God help us all.
I'd love to read your writing, Charles :)
count me in, charles, owning a place called 'loopy lair' must tell you a lot of my 'normal' state ;) lol
sign mine: to the goofiest wuff i know... or some such :O
mwuahahahahahahaha
that looks like a cool book. i've wanted to buy a copy for a while, but funds are tight.
Lunacy.... I love that! :-) :-) :-)
Wow! I come here the first time( via, Donetta's) & I see a contest...I've been lucky so far I guess :)
I had no idea you were ( are) a writer!
Me, me, me! Lol! Gimme!
...and I expect it to be signed.
:-P
The question is....... would you post it to jolly ole England :)
x
The grub has entered the contest.
Thanks everyone. Keep those entries coming. I will mail it wherever, except the moon or outer sapce. But if you have an earth address I'll get it to you.
Say, are you picking the winner from a hat? If so, maybe I'll leave more than one comment to increase my chances of winning. Kind of like buying more than one lottery ticket. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. Just don't go all Shirley Jackson on me. I've had enough rocks thrown at me in my lifetime.

I inadvertently double-clicked. Honest.
I'm in for a chance at a signed copy
Me want! :)
Cool contest, Charles. I would like to read your story.
Sure J. R. I believe everything you say implicitely. After all, you'd never write...fiction, would you?
206 pages of zaniness? Count me in!
so... who won???
I'm gonna let it run a few more days I think.
ok... i can wait, you already have my address :O lol
Okay, I really need to win this one! My birthday was Sunday, and I am a tiny bit down in the dumps about it! They say this getting old ain't for sissies. "They" are right! Love those children/youth books and scifi-especially the ones from "back in the day." What fun! D
Hey - I can just manage to slip an entry in here
Completely irrelevant comment... My Sword and Planet collection is steadily growing. I just bought a 40 year old copy of Mike Resnick's "Goddess of Ganymede" and a 55 year old copy of Leigh Brackett's "Sword of Rhiannon" in a second hand bookshop. Both were American paperbacks and in excellent condition so a real find here in the UK, and a bargain at £1.00 ($1.50) each

I WANT IT
I GOT TO GOT TO GOT TO HAVE IT

MESSAGE TO CLOUDIA.........
YOU ABSOLUTLY MUST GET A COPY OF 'COLD IN THE LIGHT'
RIGHT NOW , DO NOT DELAY!
'COLD IN THE LIGHT' WAS MY FIRST CHARLES G. EXPERENCE, & I AM HOOKED!
AVALABLE THRU AMAZON OR THE CHARLES G. HIMSELF CAN PROBABLY SELL YOU A COPY & SIGN IT TOO.YOU WILL LOVE IT. I'M SOOOO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I'VE BEEN TOLD THE CHARLES G. HAS NO INTENTION OF WRITING A SCREEN PLAY OF 'COLD' & IT WOULD MAKE A FABULOUS MOVIE. I COULD IMAGINE THE FILM WHILE I WAS READING THE BOOK.IT TOTALLY PULLED ME IN.
methinks one cag is keeping the book for hisself! :O lol
I promise the book announcement is coming soon.
WoW! If you're a teachaholic, I'm one, too. I retired from teaching in Maine and headed for Asia to teach English. Your book would be a great teaching tool here in Korea. We have almost no humorous literature available in English.
Hugs from the Far Side,
~ Sil
ok... shall i 'bait' my breath? :O lol
Free book? Signed free book? I'm absolutely in!
Not that I need more lunacy, but it’s the promise of zaniness that sucked me in. One can always use more zany. Speaking of which, I just found you via Mimi Pencil Skirt.
Autographed, if you would be so kind.
Free books! Yay! I've enjoyed reading your blog, particularly the "Who are you trying to impress" series.
All righty! Contest is officially over. I'll be doing the drawing today.
Thanks everyone for entering.
