Book Mooch

Sid posted about Book Mooch some time ago and I recently got around to joining. So far, so good. You get points for uploading books that you're willing to give away, then can use those points to mooch books from others in the group. So far I've mooched one and been mooched for one, but I sent two more requests today. I had quite a few extra Louis L'Amour books because I inherited a collection from a friend's Uncle and ended up with quite a few duplicate copies. I've picked up various duplicates over time, as well. The only cost is postage to mail books that people mooch from you. Seems like a pretty cool idea, especially since many of the books I want are actually older ones that aren't on the shelves at the local bookstores.

For more on Biblioholism, check out Sphinx Ink's post today.

Another good idea. I like it -- bookstores usually don't carry what I want most of the time. Will have to check this out. Plus, good to keep the collection at a set limit and move the rest on to those who wish to "mooch."

I sent out a mooch request today after a visit to a used book store where I found some ideas. I have enough points for one more mooch so I may snag another before it's all said and done.

What a great idea! My wife's cousin in Chicago and I mail books back and forth to each other. Now I may have a bigger outlet for mooching.

If you like being able to browse other people's bookshelves and trade books back and forth you might want to check out www.bookcrossing.com as well. That way if you can't find on on Book Mooch you could try to find it on bookcrossing.

Yeah, Sid, I've still got one mooch request left at the moment.

Erik and JR, it seems to be a good idea so far.

Minda, thanks for the heads-up. I'll check it out.

I've been looking for a place where I can Book Mooch. Some of the books I want to read are a little expensive. This will be interesting. Thanks for posting a link.
