About the only thing I have to say today is that I have a new story up at The Flash Fiction Press. It's called "Woman in Dust." If you have a moment, check it out. It's a quick read. It's here.
As for the Super Bowl, I didn't have anything against either team. I actually like the Carolina Panthers. However, gotta admit I was hoping for a win for Peyton Manning. Although he certainly was not the MVP--the Denver defense was--I was happy to see someone from my adopted home (New Orleans) prove victorious. Plus, I've always had respect for Peyton's skills and for the fact that he seems genuinely like a decent fellow.
Cool story -- good imagery, and a nice twist at the end. :)

I didn't care either way but it was good to see Manning get another Super Bowl win. Denver's defense stopped Carolina cold.
ReplyDeleteAngie, thankee
ReplyDeleteAlex, absolutely
That short piece gives you something to ponder. Nice writing and imagination. I'm with you with the Superbowl, no real dog in the hunt even though I'm from NC, the Panthers came long after I left the state and Peyton will go down as one of the best. It was a defensive game.
ReplyDeleteIntense piece of writing leaving the question of what happens when patience runs thin unanswered. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous writing, Charles. You managed to get a lot into those few words.
ReplyDeleteGreat, Charles! Heading over there.
ReplyDeleteSage, yes, not one of the more exciting superbowls offensively but I did enjoy the great defense.
ReplyDeleteBernard, perhaps there'll be "hell" to pay? :)
Patti, thank you!
Prashant, thanks, man
Hmmm, I left a comment both there and here, but the one here seems to have vanished. So, I'll say agin, a powerful, evocative image-rich story, Charles. Very nice indeed. Good job.

ReplyDeleteYou know? About two-thirds through that story, I wondered to myself if the narrator was one of the icons, or perhaps even a cross. It made the ending of the short piece that much more surreal to see that I was quite probably correct, though not confirmed solidly. It could be a spirit trapped in an inanimate object by a curse or other dark magic. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs for Payton, I'm one of just a few people in Michigan who roots for him and his brother. I guess that's from being a native Tennessean, where he went to school and played. And I can tell you with 100% accuracy that people in Michigan hate him because they hold him personally responsible for the Wolverines having to share that national title during the 90's. Heh... sports silliness. I just like to watch games unfold, and learn different takes on strategy. I could do without all the posturing and poor attitude
Richard R., thank you!
ReplyDeleteeric1313, yes, I seldom watch the pregame or postgame stuff. I just like the actual game.
My daughter had us record the Stupor Bowl so that should could watch the commercials. And I watched right up until Newtown had that prima donna moment with the fumble.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I just read your story and I loved how it was told from the cross's p.o.v. Very, very cool and ingenious.

G.B., thanks, man. Glad you enjoyed the story. yeah, that fumble thing was weird.
ReplyDeleteI was rooting for Peyton to play well. Bonus that he got the W.
ReplyDeleteYour story was excellent. I appreciated the unexpected comparisons. So creative. Well done Sir!
