Here are the first five songs from my favorite Hard Rock list. Certainly there are many other good songs that might fall into my top five under the right circumstances, but at this moment, these are my picks. Please note that I've realized I need a separate list for "southern rock." That will be upcoming after the Hard Rock top ten.

ReplyDeleteThat could very well be my list too. I can remember the first time I listened to Van Halen I. Same with Shout at the Devil. Each of these songs comes off an album where nearly every song is a gem.

ReplyDeleteOK, so now I guess I wonder what your definition, or examples of "rock" is/are, since none of these groups fits anywhere near my idea of hard rock… Maybe I'm just too old, thinking "Let It Bleed" and such are hard rock.

Alex, my favorite song by them although they have several I like.
Richard, I just call bands like the Rolling stones, "rock." Without any adjective. I think 'hard' rock came into it's own around the seventies, with bands like aerosmith.

Charles, I used to listen to AC/DC and Guns N Roses. It's nice to revisit these and the other groups. I like their music even though I don't understand it.

ReplyDeleteSomehow, after all these years, I still can't picture Motley Crue playing music without them being thought of as caricatures of themselves.

ReplyDeleteRiot kitty, they are most often classified as 'hair metal,' but I think of it as much more hard rock than metal. Some of their songs verge on metal for me.
Sage, I bought a lot of Nugent's albums back in the 70s and 80s and liked a lot of his stuff. I certainly do not approve of his modern day comments and figure I probably wouldn't like the guy on a personal level. But on a sheer emotional level, I still really like Stranglehold and some of his other songs.
G.B., maybe that's partly because they had such a salient image back in the day. I'm kind of that way about Kiss.
I agree with every one of those, and have them in different mixes on my own cuts.
ReplyDeleteactually i have seen everyone on this list live....i was at the longest GNR concert ever...it was 6.5 hours straight...one of te most amazing concerts i was ever at...they did a whole acoustic couch set....

I can go with this list, too. If I had to pick one "forever entombed," it would be "Highway to Hell." "Back in Black" is cool, too.
