I took a few days off to let Wraith of Talera rest and have been playing a lot of my video game Skyrim. It's such a wide open world and beckons one to explore. I think I've been playing too much, though, because I've started dreaming about it as of last night, and when I close my eyes I can see various kinds of screen images from the game. I think I'll take most of the day off Skyrim and get back to writing. In fact, ideas are occurring fast and furious but before I start anything new I'm going to give Wraith of Talera its final read through and send it on its merry way.
As I'm writing this, we have six baby coons in the back yard, with two different mommas. They come out early in the morning to graze around the yard for bird seed that has spilled out of the trays. Many birds flutter around in the trays and knock out seed. The doves scratch it out. When the coons first came they climbed up our poles and knocked the seed out themselves, and at one point completely dragged off one hanging feeder. We got Raccoon baffles and they didn't work. So we had to put two baffles back to back and that finally stopped them.
At any rate, the little ones are great fun to watch because they wrestle and play around all over the place. Sometimes 2, sometimes 3, sometimes all four of the one family. Lana is watching through binoculars and laughing uproariously at their antics. The young everywhere have energy. It's good to see someone does.

Alex, we throw out scraps to them and they like a variety of different kinds of things. they loved some stale blueberry pie we threw out yesterday.

I have never played a computer game. I wonder if I would like it. We have rabbits and squirrels here but as far as I know, no coons.

ReplyDeleteWe have a bunch of baby goats and a baby donkey in our immediate neighborhood, but none visible from the back porch. Our ridiculous dogs tend to provide all the shenanigans we really require around the house, though.

Chris, the neighbors about half a mile away have literally a pack of little dogs. There's six of them and none are bigger than a cat. They get up to shenanigans.
Cute as hell, but a big pain in the neck, if not yet then as they grow up. Squirrels are enough for us to deal with, I'm glad we don't have raccoons.

Richard, I know. We may be getting ourselves into trouble for the future for sure with the coons. That pack of dogs would indeed be a horror for tiny people. That might have some merit as a story indeed!

My son plays Skyrim on his PS3 and some action games like Call of Duty. I used to play DOS versions of Pac-man and Paratrooper as well as Dave, Islander, Mario, Prince, and Tetris. Nowadays I play only chess or Literati, the closest to the classic scrabble. Trivial Pursuit (preferably the UK version) is another fascinating GK boardgame.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Raccoons out here but I like watching kittens play. They do all kinds of crazy stuff.
We have raccoons but don't see them often.
ReplyDeleteWe've been seeing rabbits this year consistently - almost every day.
We also have large hawks.
I enjoy watching both with my kids but I really hope I we don't witness the hawks and the rabbits in the same time & space, or I will have some food-chain explaining to do.

ReplyDeletePaul, we had a hawk kill a dove and eat it in our backyard once. No kids, though so Lana and I just watched nature red in tooth and claw, and talon.
