Fiction Techniques #1 is Free

On my last blog I mentioned uploading three articles for Kindle in what I'm calling the "Fiction Techniques Series.  The first one in the series, Fiction Techniques #1: Creating Suspense, is free today and for the next two days.

The second one, Fiction Techniques #2: Characters Wanted, will go up for free after that for a few days. These are both expansions on material that was included in my nonfiction book on writing, Write With Fire. The third one, Fiction Techniques #3: The Twist Ending, is brand new so I probably won't make it free. It's just 99 cents, though.

If you're a writer, why not try the free one and see if you find the series helpful. If folks do find them helpful, I may write more.  And there is always Write With Fire, which has many other articles and essays on writing, including tip pieces and marketing pieces.

Happy New Year

  1. I've read "Write with Fire" which is good because I'm a Nookie and not a Kindlee and can't take advantage of your freebee :)

I am curious about the twist endings--but then I need to find time to play with more fiction.

  3. Charles, I downloaded Fiction Techniques #1 — thanks very much — and just bought the other two. I read a couple of paragraphs of the first and liked reading about the suspense element, particularly dark suspense, in fiction.

  4. Riot Kity, back at ya!

Prashant, thanks. I appreciate it. I spent a lot of time on those pieces. Did a lot of thinking about it. I appreciate the support.

  7. David, thanks, man. The second one will be free in a few days as well. I will go so far as to say I don't hate that pic. :)

    Optimistic E., thankee.

  9. Charles,

Terrific, almost iconic new pic of you on your blog.
    Did you trim your hair?

I worry about comments on hair, since the last time I told a noted rock'n'roll singer to "get a haircut", he told me,
    "Get a hair lip!"

    Ah well. Good pic!

(And I've had a glance at Writing With Power. As you can see these days, I tend to write, sort-of, with squeamishness).

  10. Golden Eagle, I hope they are useful.

Ivan, I'm trying to get the squeamishness behind me again. It isn't easy. :)

  12. Your prolificy amazes me, but as you said several posts ago, it really comes down to the decision to write something every day, even if its a sentence or two. That's a New Year's resolution that I can understand, and should adopt.

My best to the coming year. And I did learn something from Write with Fire as I did with your other books. I'd easily recommend it to any writer.

  13. Vesper, I appreciate that!

    X. Dell, Thanks for the kind words. I do think Write With fire has some good stuff in it. It hasn't sold horribly well but for an unknown like myself I suppose it's sold as well as to be expected.

  14. Thanks, Charles.

P.S. Don't forget to add the series to your author page via Author Central (the books aren't listed under your Kindle editions here www.amazon.com/Charles-Gramlich/e/B003VXAVP2
