Today's post is dedicated to my talented wife, Lana, whose photography skills are lately being recognized all over the place. On Saturday night she won first place in photography for her "Foggy Morning" over at the Lacombe Art Guild Spring show. Her "Grebe and Grasses" photo, which I personally love, got honorable mention. You can check out her post about the contest and see the winning entries at her blog.
To make things better, Lana's winning entry, "Foggy Morning," was taken almost outside our front door. Gotta love that.
Lana already picked up another first place award for photography at another art show earlier this year, and her photos were in high demand at a recent art market in Madisonville down here. These days, with technology, many people can take good photos with the digital cameras available, but there's still something about the eye of the artist that adds to the quality of photos and turns them from the mundane into an art form.
Quite often as we are out on our nature walks, Lana and I will see the same physical scene, but her eye catches patterns of light and shadow that I never see, or she will become entranced with the geometric lines found among growing plants or in natural arrangements of stone. Often, with wildlife, there will be only a second available for the special shot, the one that raises the level of the scene to art, and she somehow manages to capture it. I stand in awe. I hope you'll check out her blog.

ReplyDeleteBill, thanks for visiting.
ReplyDeleteDeka, yes, so much so.
I love how fog transforms landscapes, plays with light and sound. There's a wonderful feeling of serenity in both photos.
ReplyDeleteRon, she captures that so well. I don't know how she does it. But it feels serene
ReplyDeleteYou two are quite a pair. Isn't it nice when you can share success?
ReplyDeleteThere is a definite difference between us photo hacks and a pro. Great news about the win.
ReplyDeleteYou're wayyy too sweet to me, baby. Love you much.
ReplyDeletePatty, it is so nice! To get support in your creative endevours is such a nice thing.
ReplyDeleteBernardl, I'm not even a hack. except that I'm liable to hack off people's heads in the photos I take.
Lana, no youse.
Fantastic! Congrats --> I'll check 'em out~~
ReplyDeleteJust came from visiting Lana's blog and they are both stunning, really stunning.
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm a long-time fan and can't wait for the day I can afford a bit of her art!

Steve Malley, that pesky shipping has to be the biggest thing for you. you know, she was actually in New Zealand once upon a time, quite a long time ago now.
Like Steve, I'm a long-time Lana fan. :) It's so good to see her get the recognition she deserves.

ReplyDeleteLana's work is always beautiful. An eye for what makes a great shot is the key. The drummer in my new band, Andrea, takes wonderful shots too. But she claims her editing tools are a big key to her artistic success. Either way, it is an art and not everyone is capable of capturing and framing spirit they way that artists like they are capable of doing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind comments and support, everyone! I'm glad y'all like it. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Lana and to you. Artists and authors go together.
ReplyDeleteI am off to check Lana's blog now, eager to see the picture.
Well done Lana. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteWell done! Those were some great photos!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Lana-off to check out her photos.
ReplyDeleteeric1313, Lana tends to do very minimal editing, if at all. So often it's a timing, or in the moment sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteLana Gramlich, they appreciate your talent.
Ocean Girl, yes, I believe you're right. :)
Mark, thankee.
Paul R. McNamee, I always get to see them first too. It's cool.
sage, thanks, man.
grats, lana!
ReplyDeleteand you too, charles... for marrying her ;)
Laughingwolf, for sure man. :)
ReplyDeleteI am on my way to Lana's blog but first wanted to leave a comment for you. I am touched by so much love and pride shining through your post as you write about your wife and partner. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteWell done Lana!
ReplyDeleteLana truly is a wonderful photographer.
ReplyDeleteIt's always funny how two people see different things. Steve and I frequently take photos of events and places together, and his are always very different in focus and content than mine. I've noticed however that Danielle and I seem to produce similar photos.
paula devi, thanks for dropping by. I very much appreciate your comment.
ReplyDeleteTravis Cody, indeed!
Candy, that is interesting. no matter the technology, the eye is dfferent.
Thanks again for all of the kind comments & thanks again to my wonderful husband for being so supportive. :)
ReplyDeleteI must say, you guys live in a ver scenic place.
ReplyDeleteThose are very cool photos, Lana. You are indeed quite talented.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
ReplyDelete...So I'll add no more cliches.
Achievement for Lana.
Lana's Blog is one of those rare spaces that gives a kind of geneology to a relatively unknown area of North Amarica. Even if the natives know, they don't know how to show or say. And the eye of Lana's camera does. Just as her paintings create an 'inner map' of topographies around here and such, and their luminous marks on her particular imagination.
ReplyDeleteOnce in awhile the "average joe" will accidentally take a good photograph; but the real talent comes from those who consistently see and capture something different and show the rest of us what it is--that's what Lana does.
ReplyDeleteYay Lana! And I'm so honored to one of her pieces. :-D
ReplyDeleteLana Gramlich, you sweet.
ReplyDeleteX. Dell, thanks, man.
ivan, thumbs up.
M. M. Fahren, well said. I think she will appreciate those words. I do.
JR, I think that's it exactly.
