SF/Fantasy Con, and Books

On Saturday, March 26th, I’ll be a guest at the Louisiana Science Fiction and Costuming Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I’ll probably also be there some on Sunday. On Saturday I’m going to be talking about Dreams and Nightmares and sitting on panels about Fanzines, Horror Films, and Sci Fi Films. It looks to be a lot of fun so if you get a chance drop by. The con website is here.

Some of you may possibly remember me remarking toward the end of 2010 about how I was so behind on reading that I was going to cut back on buying books for a while. Ha ha ha haha hahahhahaha. HA! Below is a sample of ‘some’ of the books I’ve bought since saying that. This is all fiction and doesn’t include the some $300 bucks I spent on nonfiction at Borders’ Going out of Business Sale. I absolutely cannot stop.

  1. I have many of those titles. And I've yet to read many of those titles. I keep buying but can't seem to read as fast. :)

  5. Wish I could make it, alas...

Wow, that looks like some great titles-I've been meaning to catch up on a lot more reading this year myself. I will try to get some of those by Ty Johnston especially.

  6. David, I know, I've read less than a third of these so far even though I've been reading steadily.

Alex, they generally put on a pretty good un.

Deka, it is. It's written by Kate Sterling, who is on my blog lists. I've read a couple of hers. Almost "sweet" erotica if there is such a thing.

G, most of these are kindle purchases so the prices were right. The Borders sale. Well, who can resist a book sale? Not me.

David J. West, I actualy got Moer than Kin" by him through a free giveaway he was having. I've read a couple of his other books and liekd 'em.

  7. I'm so broke and forced by this evil called "reality" i can't afford a cheap e-book. But! This makes me not jealous aof those having one. instead i wish him a long enjoyment (man, this last sentence soundedlike a X movie).

Anyway, at least, you don't have space problems with kindle purchases.

  9. I'm addicted to book buying also... Maybe if I could spend a year living in a cabin without anything but lights, I'd get through my tbr pile.

  15. Deka Black, many of these are Kindle, which also meant cheaper prices. I actually got two of these for free through author giveaways. Can't get a better deal than that.

Sidney, you do what you have to do to get book money.

sage, I know. If I stopped sleeping I could get much of mine read.

jodi, thankee. Yes, The Sebastian St. Cyr series is my favorite historical mystery series.

Ron Scheer, at least I accomplished something then. :)

Cloudia, maybe into Charles the big kid.

laughingwolf, I always do so I'm sure it'll be another good year.

Gaston Studio, yeah, the weather is looking really nice here right now.

  21. There might be a rehab for bookaholics, but who'd want to go? :)

  22. The only thing holding me back from purchasing more books is the fact that I work in a pretty big library and my office is at the end of the second floor stacks . . . and also the number of times I've moved in the past, dragging all my books with me . . .

    ReplyDelete
  23. Steve, maybe if I went I could sell 'em books!

Erik, I know about that. I'm afraid to move ever again. I hope I have enough money to afford to pay someone to do it for me.

  24. As the old saying goes, welcome to the club. We're all like that. Readers I mean. While I can't say I never met a book I didn't like, it's close. Those that don't read never get it either.

  25. Randy, I like how you blog about your latest acquisitions so I had to do my own version.

  26. Wishing you a great time at the festival!

  27. Wow! How cool! Have a great time!!!

  28. Hope you have fun at the Festival!

  29. It's OK Charles. We understand. One should never make promises to oneself that one knows will not be kept.

Besides, when you do get some time, you'll have any number of books ready to hand. It's a win-win I say!

  30. You are a true reader and it is wonderful to have such an appetite. Enjoy it Charles.

  31. Ello, I'm hoping too.

The Golden Eagle, they've got some great stuff lined up for sure.

Travis Cody, true. On all counts.

Ocean Girl, like with food, my eyes often think I can consume more than I truly can.

  32. Ouch. We have the same problem. We're anxiously waiting Danielle's departure (with her book collection) for grad school and an apartment, which will free up three big bookcases. We're already squabbling over who gets them, but judging from the homeless books piled around, I think Steve will win.

  33. Aw, thanks, Charles! I only just now saw this - have been working too many hours at the dreaded day job. :)

  34. Candy, books do need their homes.

Kate, that is indeed sad. And yet we have no choice.
