Interrupting Our Normal Three Day Pattern

I'd normally leave "The Gray Man" post front and center for another day but there is some breaking news I wanted to share. Richard Godwin has interviewed me over at Chin Wag At The Slaughterhouse, and it's certainly the most unique interview I've ever done. There's already some good comments and discussion so if you get a chance to check it out, you might find it intersting.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled blogging.

  1. Charles, I read, or rather tried to read the interview. Apparently I am too much a dumbass to truly understand it, tho! You brainiacs! Congrats tho--it's very impressive!

  2. I left a message at the interview, then went to shower and wash my hair. Can't quit thinking about it. Your students must fight to get in your classes! :)

  3. It was a great piece because I liked seeing more insights into your doctorate arena.

  5. Jodi, who knows if I knew what I was saying anyway.

Jess, Most of the students who take my classes do seem to like them.

David J. West, it was intersting to be able to talk about that kind of stuff outside of my normal academic circles

    David Cranmer, thankee
    Heff, great name for sure!

  6. Well, i tried to understand the interview. Been hard, but there is one thing i like to quote:

"I believe fantasy literature does exactly the opposite of undermining reality. I think it teaches us that the standard concept of reality is far too simplistic and restricting."

I believe i understand this, But i'm not too sure, really. But if you want to say the things i'm thinking, well, i'm with you.

Oh, one last thing: Why the people keep scaring me with a image of Carlos Bardem. (ugliest actor in my country)?

  7. The most thought-provoking interview with an author I've read in a long time. And now I've got to hunt down a copy of The Snow Leopard and add it to my TBR pile.

  8. Dude, that was impressive! I feel so ignorant and uneducated now...

  9. Charles, thank you, I am in awe!

  10. Deka Black, it's a long way of saying that fantasy is very important. What is reality now was once fantasy. There are some pretty ugly actors out there, for sure.

Ty Johnston, it is such a good book. The writing is just amazing. I have passages memorized and many passages underlined.

Alex J. Cavanaugh, lol. Glad you enjoyed anyway.

Merisi, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for checking it out and commenting.

  11. After reading the interview I realize your brain is always relaying information in surround sound. My brain on the other hand is hearing in less than stereo.

To be certain the post was interesting if a bit intimidating to someone with just a high school education.

  12. Thanks for the tip. I'm on my way...

  13. Just what i though Charles, thanks. About the uglyness, some individuals should not be allowed to walk in the streets before they take breakfast and wake up.

  14. Carole, I'll take that as a compliment even if I don't think it's quite true. About the surround sound that is!

    Evan Lewis, I appreciate that.

Deka Black, I agree with you.

  15. Wow, you are not only phenomenally prolific, you are also very deep. I salute you (in a very dandy, non-militaristic manner).

  16. Benjibopper, I'd like one of those fascist salute actually but I'm afraid to ask for it. ;)

  18. I've pretty well said the same thing in my comment at Slaughterhouse.

Yep, let your fantasies play out.

But keep a lid on the id.

Heh. I think of those space grunts in that teriffic old movie, "Forbidden Planet."

    One asks, "What's an id?"

  19. Jennifer, well don't die from it.

Ivan, loved that old movie, Forbidden planet. Creature from the ID.

  20. Good questions and thoughtful answers. Best author interview I've read in a looooong time. I like your comments about "reality" and how fiction that deals with the irrational can free us to think out of the box.

THE SNOW LEOPARD has been on the top of my best books ever list since I read it c1980. It's a spiritual journey grounded so deeply in the physical world. And beautifully written.

  21. Ron, thanks. Yes, that book is just such a wonder to me. One of the very few books that I regularly revisit.

  24. Lana, thankee sweetness.

Stewart, I was somewhat taken aback when the first question arrived. Unexpected. But it was sure a lot of fun once I got into it.
