Long Hours Ahead

I feel lately like I'm mostly making excuses here for why I'm not blogging regularly and not visiting everyone regularly. It's not for lack of ideas. I've got plenty of those. What I haven't had is time. The next 10 to 12 days will be no exception. I get 27 term papers in my writing in psychology class today, and then another 20 plus essays on Thursday from a second class. I could probably manage that reasonably but the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) called to let me know they'll be coming Monday to inspect the files for the research committee that I chair. They do this every few years but it means many, MANY hours of me going through our files to extract the information they want. I'm looking at 12 to 15 hour days straight through at least next Tuesday. So, once again, blogging has to take a back seat.

In the meantime, David Cranmer did a very nice review of "Chimes" over at his blog, and I much appreciate it. Thanks, David.

I will be back, with writing related posts sometime next week at the latest.

  3. Not to worry Charles, Easter holiday is on it's way and that should give you a little bit more time to catch up and being a bit lazy, as I'm planning to do. I know all about being short of time and wish I had more of it to visit al my blogger friends. Take care ... X

  8. It sounds like you will need energy, focus, and patience over the next few day. Sending you some positive thoughts and prayers for all three.

I look forward to reading you when things settle down Charles!

  9. Migod.

I have been in your situation, but my work was never that hard.

Heh. Maybe that's why I burned out after ten years of teaching.

    Sympathy, friend.

    Stamina, that's the key.

Dating myself here, but: "Oh it's fun to be a genius of course,
"But keep that old horse before the cart."
Me? I don't think I got much "heart" for the teaching any more.

  10. Hi Charles,

Good luck on getting through all of that stuff -- grading is evil! In response to your last blog, I almost never start anything with dialogue -- it just doesn't work for me. I'm kind of an action/situation person myself. Hope you and Lana are doing well!

  11. yep, that real life will trip you up now and then. You take care of business and we'll be here when you get the time.

  12. I'd rather have a little of the authentic Charles than a lot of the burned out one. Take your time and these things seem to shake out.

  13. No need to make excuses. We understand about work getting in the way. Check in when you can and make sure you write down some of those ideas for when you do get time to blog again.

  14. I'm with you, Charles, I've barely had time to look at the web, much less blog. I'm so glad you brought up the occasional time constraints that hammer us all, and no need for apologies!

I'll be reviewing "Chimes" on my next post by the end of the week when I should have time to breathe again. Between managing my business and cranking out my novel, I have a hard time remembering my name. What's your name again? :)

  17. Get your work done. Play and rest when you can. I'll keep poking my head in, regardless of how long it takes for your schedule to calm. : )

  18. That was a very nice review for you. Sounds like you're a busy guy these days. Take your time, prioritize and we'll all catch up later right?

  20. Yoiks, Charles!

I used to work in a quality lab that was an FDA-auditable facility. As a former document checker and traveling auditor, I FEEL your pain. Stock up on the caffeine and watch out for papercuts!

  21. When I get busy like that, I don't have that much to write. I get all bogged down in what I'm doing. But, usually, there are some good blogs ideas in those busy days. So you can think of it as collecting ideas for us to read!

  22. Ah, yes. The administrative side of teaching. I remember it well.

    Hapy slogging.

  23. No problem, Charles. We'll be here when you get back. :-D

  26. Heck Charles, I'm terrible about making the blog-rounds and I have no good reason for it. We'll see you when you can come up for air.
