I have an old hard bound copy of 'The Hour of the Dragon' from a Sci/Fi fantasy book club I belonged to back in the middle seventies. I refuse to say how many times I've reread that book. :)

I'm with you and Scott on Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. That is hands down the finest Trek movie to date.

ReplyDeleteCharles - Thanks for stopping over...I might have to pick up a copy of Cold in the Light...Sounds intriguing...I am very into hybrid genre books...I think this probably isn't the greatest example, but my favorite books series ever is The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Great hybrid (in my non writers opinion) of the fantasy/sci-fi/western genres.

You know, it's sort of bad and sort of good, but most books that I re-read are like reading them for the first time. I have a terrible memory. Kind of like deja vu reading.

jennifer, for me it depends on the time in my life when I read them. I remember books from my young days very well. I remember books now pretty well, but from about 96 to 2006, when I was under a whole lot of stress, I don't remember them nearly as well.
ReplyDeleteShauna Roberts, yes, Khan was a great character. I thought Montalban was perfect for the role. Cool on the Kindle Hour of the Dragon. It's good stuff.
pattinase (abbott), it's one of the few series I've ever watched that almost always surprises me. And yeah, I like the horror elements.

Ello, I'm a fan boy from way back. I have 130 blogs in my reader but fortunately not everyone posts every day. One thing I also do is hardly ever respond to more than one post from a person in a day, even though quite a few people post more than once a day. I also hardly ever watch the vidoes that people post, which tends to eat up a lot of time.
Four books and four movies is definitely not enough. Travis should like your food choices, by the way. Meat eaters unite.

Been there and loved it.
Agree with you on the chicken, especially in Chattanooga.nothin' like southern cookin'.
But I've been to London, Bonn, Brussels, Copenhagen--and (God help us!) Haiti...I needed some cheap place to relax after a negative experience with my shrink, who, I think, was trying to turn me into a turnip.
Except for Baby Doc, the chicken there was unbelievable too. Dive resorts offer great fare.
But I myself became chicken when chased by the -Tonton Macoute (a term for bogeyman in Haiti's Creole dialect) --brutes.
..Jesus. Out of the trying pan and,iterally (after seeing voodoo dancers around a a flaming pit)--into the fire. And then the Ton-Tonton Macoutes seemingly after me on a moolit beach just south of the voodoo dancers doing the frug on hot coals.
Men with guns and shrunken heads make me nervous.
Hah. Escape one shrink and end up with some real pros after you. :)

ReplyDeleteChildhood's End - never read it since being trapped underground on a tube train in the 60s. Down there long enough to read the entire book - and then the tube started moving.
