Vacation

Well, we're leaving on Tuesday for vacation and won't be back until the end of next weekend. Since we'll be in the wilds I won't be doing 'any' blogging, and won't be able to visit everyone's blogs. I'm sure you'll all survive. I probably won't be getting around to blogs tomorrow even, seeing as how I have a lot of things to do before we head out. I'm getting my fishing gear ready in hopes of doing some fishing while I'm gone.

In the meantime, I finished Harry Potter 3: The Prisoner of Azkaban and found it to be very much fun. I think it's my favorite so far in the series. I have the fourth book on order bu tunless it gets here tomorrow I won't be taking Potter along with me. I've got plenty of other books, though, including those on my Kindle 2.

I also read a book entitled: Why Evolution is True, by Jerry Coyne. Excellent book. I wish I could get every creationist to read it, although I'm not sure even this would change their minds.

I'll miss you folks. Take care.

  6. re evolution:

I am not a Bible thumper, but evolution is evolution and The Descent of Man is just a book.
I think Man is knockoff from something else-- perhaps leaving only backside?
Latest theory is hobbits. No kidding. Fom what is now Malaysia. Tiny people with small brains who nevertheless used tools and were pretty adept at things, easily the match of Neolithic man.
Even Dr. David Suzuki is scratching his head and thinks antropology had taken a wrong turn.
Throw out Homo Habilis and all those othe categories? Homo the Sap?
Sometimes I wonder if we are the saps of Darwin.

  16. Creationists have minds?

Have a great break, Charles. I have an image of you barbecuing the fish you've just caught as the sun sets slowly in the West - or would it be the East where you are? Have fun!

  20. Azkabhan was my favorite too. Maybe. That fifth book really terrified me. Dolores Umbridge is the stuff of my nightmares...

Enjoy your holiday, but don't kid yourself: we shan't get along without you; you are the glue that holds our ragtag band together! ;-p

  27. Nope! No changing my mind but different beliefs and perspectives, shared respectfully, keep things interesting.

I am glad that you are enjoying the Harry Potter series. My middle child just finished reading them all for the second time and is planning to read them again. After she finishes Madeleine L'Engle's Wrinkle in Time series. But first she plans to finish Ted Dekker's Red, Black, and White books (she's reading Black). And I share all of that with you why? Because I know you love books and readers of books :)

Have a lovely vacation Charles. I hope you catch a fish thiiiiiiiiiis big!

  30. Have a wonderful vacation with lots of inspiration, Charles.

As for evolutionism re. creativism, I just can not accept that these are excluding one another. I gather information, some by my own intuitions, and try to form my own standing on the issue.

  33. The only Harry Potter I've read is the first one, which I read nine years ago and really enjoyed. But never did get around to the rest. I do see the appeal though. Some day, maybe when Dyl gets old enough.

  35. Have a good time, Charles!

Do people really need to be convinced that evolution is true? (What am I saying? I grew up among fundamentalist Christians -- of course they do!)

  36. Have a great time Charles. Not another fisherman...! The blog seems to have a lot of fisherman on it - plus my hubby! lol

I'll read that evolutionist book if you want - but I doubt it would change my mind. ;0) Too much evidence to the contrary, too many gaps in the theory for me. I prefer fact. :)

You better not be away much longer - Wil is only just clinging onto life!

  38. Enjoy the vacation! A break between Potter books is a good thing. Gives it time to settle before the next installment.
