Back Online At Last

Just a short note to say Lana and I got our power back this evening and can finally start to claw out from under our backlog of messages. Some initial priorities included baths. Four days without electricity in southern Louisiana, meaning no AC and no running water, can...well...let's just say that it's a good thing this net thing doesn't allow smellovision.

We came through the storm OK, and we'll be giving some updates as time permits. Lana did some short videos that she'll be showing over this week, too. Our main problem was the electricity going out on Monday morning about 8:00, and then getting trapped in our neighborhood by rising flood waters. Our house and cars survived, but for three days we weren't even able to move out of our driveway unless we walked.

Anyway, more later. For now I'm going to try to catch up on critical emails and dream of a night sleeping with AC.

  2. The storm gave you another blessing. You missed most of the convention.

I'm glad to hear that you and Lana are fine, minus the bath.

  3. I'm glad to hear that the worst of it missed you. Too bad about the power...that had to suck.

  4. Welcome back! So glad you made it through okay. I'll bet those showers felt good!

  5. Happy to hear you've got power again. The remnants of Gustav were up here in the "Three I" states today, mixing with a cold front and and bringing a steady rain.

  6. Very glad indeed for this positive update, but please take a bath, soon

  7. It's so good to know you are both ok. I look forward to your next posts.

4 days with out electric sounds rough (what about the freezer food????)
Glad to hear that the house and cars survived intact. And that you are having a wash before speaking to us again.... ;0)

  8. Better to be hot than cold, my dears.
    Am relieved.

  9. Sorry to hear you guys had to rough it so long. It wound up passing further east of us than expected so we had two days of rain but nothing too major. One day it was all misty drizzle. Alexandria was hit pretty hard it appears. If I had been there I would have been without power I'm sure.

  10. Charles:

Been checking everyday, so very happy to get word. Seemed the storms just kept on coming your way after the initial landfall. Hope things go smoothly from here out ...

  13. I don't know Charles... a few days without a bath certainly lets you know what your partner thinks of you really.

    Welcome back smelly or clean.

  14. I'm so glad you're both all right, and that you didn't lose anything major. [hugz] Hopefully there wasn't too much damage around the place. Hang in there, hon.

  15. I left a comment on Lana's blog but forgot to mention I tried some Turbodog beer from Abita brewery the other day. Pretty good stuff.

  17. Glad you guys are o.k. I was beginning to wonder. Back when hurricane Ivan hit 'Bama a few years ago, we were without power for 3 days. I feel your pain.

  18. Charles,

Glad to hear you two got through without too much trouble.

    Of course, it's all Bush's fault. ;)

  19. Thanks everyone. Sorry not to make individual comments to folks today but I'm going to try to catch up a bit on Google Reader. And judging from the number of posts it'll take a while.

Lana and I appreciate all the well wishes.

  22. A back up propane or natural gas generator might be a good investment, Charles, with the length of your storm season down there. Good to hear your property made it through too.

  23. Great news :-D

I am sure you will be able to put some of your 'without electricity experience' into some fictional context some time in the near future.

  24. Glad you two made it through okay, though, smelly or not!

  26. Charles, omigosh! I wondered where you had gone. I'm glad to hear you survived. We get used to electricity, don't we? I always feel like a pioneer when the electricity goes off.

    Welcome back!

Wow, thankfully you sit on high ground!! Glad you're finally in a position to reassemble a normal routine. And glad that it wasn't worse.

  28. yay, you guys are fine!

  29. Charles! I'm so glad you and Lana are fine! Sorry about the electricity. We are bracing ourselves here for Hannah to come in on us - and hoping we don't lose power. Last time we lost power for a few days - it was truly difficult, what with little kids and all. I feel for you guys but glad you guys weathered through!

  30. From somebody who left to escape the storm and the after-effects, I can imagine how it felt to be without electricity for four days. Glad to hear things are getting back on track.

  31. Hi, Charles: My hubby had to fly back early to Florida because of Gustav. Remember we were hit by Charlie a few years ago? Well--he's still down there and getting ready again for the next one. They had high winds and rain in Punta Gorda thanks to Gustav, but he secured everything. Only lost an antenna on his boat. He says he's really getting tired of this. Next wave should hit PG on Wednesday. Hope you aren't too waterlogged. Glad to hear you made it.

  32. Wow, I got to the part about rising flood water and I nearly fell out of my seat. How scary!

I'm going to be checking Lana's blog for those videos.

  33. Glad to see you back and to hear that you came through inconvenienced but mostly unscathed. And with the limitations of technology, I can handle the smell.:~D

  34. Glad you finally got power back and everyone is okay!

  35. Heyyyyyyy, there you are!!

  38. Thanks again everyone. I appreciate the good wishes. I've posted anew and will be responding individually to comments now. I'm not completely caught up but can see the shore at least.

  39. I'm so glad to hear you and Lana are fine and weathered your storm well.

Living without power can be tough, perhaps if there is a next time you could be prepared with having an emergency generator installed.

  40. I am pleased to hear that you survived and that the worse of it didn't get too close to you!!!

  41. Barbara, we're going to look into a generator, though the cost at present is prohibitive.

Lyzzydee, no, the hurricane itself didn't really do anything around us. The aftermath rain is what hurt. thanks for stopping by.
