I'm spending most of the day helping Lana with an art show today so here's a quick post. I should get back to some writing stuff early next week.

What the Characters in Gramlich’s books are saying about him and his work.
Cold in the Light:
“A wild, rollicking ride. I’m still not sure I got out alive.” --Truman Maclang, Deerhaven Deputy Sheriff.
“A celebration of terror. Much enjoyed.” --Kargen, Villain.
“I thought my part could have been bigger.” -- Tip Baldridge, teenager.
Swords of Talera
“Ruenn Maclang is not bad. For a human. But that Gramlich guy who is claiming he wrote a book about Talera is an absolute kook.” --Jask, High-council of the Klar.
“Gramlich, I’ve seen Ruenn Maclang. I know Ruenn Maclang. Believe me, Gramlich, you’re no Ruenn Maclang.” – Rannon, love interest and swordswoman.
Wings Over Talera
“No comment!” –Vohanna, evil incarnate
“I tell you I’m in there. I’m in there.” --Chalathar, once and future god.
Witch of Talera
“Gramlich is misunderstood. He tried to publish this series as a memoir but the publisher wanted him to call it fiction and he accidentally listened. He never imagined so many twos of people would read it and by that time it was too late to let everyone know that it was really true.” --Ahrethane, Gramlich’s secret admirer.
“I told you no *&$#@#%* comment.” Vohanna, still evil.

lol... methinks ye nailed it, charles :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!
ReplyDeleteNow this was really creative, Charles! Clever, clever, clever! Do you remember the Twilight Zone episode where the writer creates real people from the character sketches he dreams up and types on the page? One of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteDonnetta
;-o shameless self promotion by encouraging the people of Talera to comment off the page!
ReplyDeletePeace
Laughingwolf, what can I say. They talk to me. But hey, I don't answer.
ReplyDeleteSteve Malley, thankee.
Donnetta, yes, I love the Twilight Zone, although my favorite is "Time Enough at Last," with Burgess Meredith as a bookish bank teller.
Mark, enoucourage? I couldn't shut them up.
i have fights with my characters, but they always win... it is THEIR story, after all ;) lol
ReplyDeleteAny time a character of mine starts to get a little cheeky, I remind them that I can easily inflict all kinds of gruesome things on them, or write them out completely.
ReplyDeleteShhhh...they haven't caught on yet to the fact that they are important and the story doesn't work without them.
"He never imagined so many twos of people would read it" - that's the story of my blog, lol !
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff.
ReplyDeletethat's hilarious, Charles! great idea!
ReplyDeletefyi - i plugged your books on two other boards i belong to... :)
ReplyDeleteVery funny ;->
ReplyDeleteThis brought a big smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you and Lana. Hope the art show is a HUGE success.
Keep us posted.
Travis, yes, it's always a good idea to keep your characters in their places. After all, we don't HAVE to write their stories? Or do we?
ReplyDeleteHeff, well, fame and popularity can't find us all. And we can't have everything. Where would we put it?
Travis Erwin, thankee.
Greg, glad you got a laugh.
Laughingwolf, thanks very much. I really appreciate that. Any word of mouth helps.
Erik, thanks, Appreciated.
David McMahon, Lana sold three pieces so it was a pretty good day.
Charles,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted you to know I just purchased a copy of Cold in the Light online. Looking forward to reading it!
Greg, thank you very much. I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoy.
ReplyDeleteClever ploy, selling a memoir as fiction: Leaves those book critics plenty of openings to divulge the real truth. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis was great!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to respond to something you said in a previous post but forgot which one it was. You said you'd given up hope that you would ever make your living as a writer. But I think you're too young to give up. You've got another 40 to 60 years ahead of you. I know people who didn't start making good money at writing until they retired and could put more energy and time into it.
...what Shauna said ;-)
ReplyDeleteRaymond Chandler was fifty before he published the Big Sleep. You just need to keep plugging away and get a lucky break. I still say the market is saturated with High Fantasy and its ready for a Sword and Planet renaissance.
BTW - I ordered my copy of "Swords of Talera" two weeks ago and I'm still waiting :-( Serves me right for being miserly and picking the cheapest partner on Amazon.co.uk!
- Jon
Nice one, Charles.
ReplyDeleteLOL - great idea. Love the:
ReplyDelete"I thought my part could have been bigger.” -- Tip Baldridge, teenager.
*snort*
lol
ReplyDeleteJask has stayed with me... I saw a photograph Lana posted on her blog and I thought 'Jask'.
I am taking Wings Over Talera on holiday with me [if it arrives in time - I ordered it from Amazon UK - might try .com for Witch of Talera]
Very stealable idea, Charles!
ReplyDeleteRannon is a little too harsh though. Ruenn trusted that Gramlich guy after all.
Good idea, Charles -- overhearing what your characters are saying about you! Now I'm all paranoid that mine are having a go at me behind my back. I'll have to go have a listen...
ReplyDeleteMerisi, lol. We'll see if the ploy works eh?
ReplyDeleteShauna, now that I'm with Lana and able to take the summers off to write for the first time in my teaching life I hope that my fortunes will improve. Hope springs eternal, I suppose. Thanks for your support.
Jon, I've seen small slivers of the renaissance with the publication of Stirling's work. I'm hoping. Thanks for ordering a copy. 2 weeks does seem like a long time. Maybe they are so backed up on orders that it's slow? ;) Yeah, that's the ticket.
Leigh Russel, thanks. Good to see you around.
Sam, ;). Thanks. I liked old Tip, but yeah he could have had a bigger part. And now it's too late.
Miladysa, Jask really grew across the course of that book. He was originally going to be only a very minor character. I hope the book gets there in time.
Bernita, you should definitely run with the idea. Let's see what your "characters" are saying. I think Rannon is irritated because I spy on all her and Ruenn's more intimate scenes. It's a hazard of the job.
Stephen Parrish, I'll check it out.
Mary Witzl, you may not like what you hear. Characters can be brutal. But in your case perhaps they all love you.
I'm surprised more of your characters weren't clamoring for bigger parts...
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! This is hysterical!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have a wicked sense of humor, which only comes out occasionally.
:-)
That was hysterical! What a great idea! I'll have to steal it if I ever get published!!!
ReplyDeleteOh and good luck to Lana!
ReplyDeleteThe day my characters write their own blog entries is the day I'm seeing a doctor.
ReplyDeleteAll kiddin aside, this was a lot of fun. Loved it.
since posting your books on my other sites, two folk told me they will order all of them :)
ReplyDeleteCleaver!
ReplyDeleteSqt, don't let them know but I've promised them all bigger parts in future books.
ReplyDeleteChris Eldin, why thank you.
Ello, use the idea any time you want. And Lana did well, sold three paintings.
Laughingwolf, thanks! That's very cool. Word of mouth is the only tool that's ever worked for me. Much appreciated.
Ivan, giving the nature of your own work, I'm not sure whether "cleaver" is a misspelling or an achingly succinct comment on the nature of the publishing world.
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely read and very, very clever.
ReplyDeleteCharles, Middle Ditch 14 is online now.
I knew you were a sillyhead!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I need to check out your books sometime. I really do. I have it on my list, I just haven't gotten there yet.
ReplyDeleteMonique, will listen to it today.
ReplyDeleteLana, no you.
Rachel, I hope you enjoy.
Loved that, Charles. :)
