New Year, Day 2

Sorry I didn't get around to anyone's blog yesterday. I spent most of the day on the couch watching football. Unfortunately, there weren't many good games. Lots of blowouts.

As is my habit these past few years, I got a few items submitted right after midnight on New Year's, including a resubmission of "Love in the Time of Cybersex." I have some poetry I want to resubmit today. I also realized that I forgot to post about the December Illuminata publication. My Writer's Block column last month was on "Emotion and Medium in Writing," in Volume 6, Issue 4, and as always you can download a free copy of the newsletter here.

Now it's off to check folks blogs, but I leave you with some pics that Lana took from our front driveway near midnight on New Year's eve.

Happy New Year!

  4. ....did you hear the story of the American lady on a tour of Windsor who asked why the Royal Family built their Castle so close to the Airport?
    (:

    You a computer gamer?

  9. Erik, yeah, they came out pretty good, although I wish we could have seen the trees which formed the backgrounds.

Julie, and to you too. That American tourist story sounds so right. What dweebs. And yes, but only a game called Age of Empires.

Steve Malley, thanks so much. I really appreciate your appreciation. Cool.

Lisa, whoo hoo! I hope you like them, and happy new year to you as well.

Travis Erwin, gotta have a few minutes here and there to get stuff out.

Ello, yep, Lana is pretty good with a camera.

Church Lady, thankee. And to you.

  11. Charles--"Love in the Time of Cybersex." The title alone is worth publication. I'll have to wait till next Wednesday to read your column. I couldn't get back to Elkhart this "weekend" because of some severe lake-effect snow, and I'm on dial-up. It takes eons to download a PDF file.

Julie's joke for some reason reminds me of a joke a British tourist played at Colonial Williamsburg. He asked the docent, "What side did Virginia take in the Civil War?" She was a bit taken aback, and said, "Why sir, Virginia was the heart and soul of the Confederacy."

"Sorry, ma'am," the Englishman said. "I meant the English Civil War."

  16. I wish we had fireworks, besides the rifle and pistol launched kind. Even out away from Detroit, the rednecks like to squeeze off a few rounds to let the neighbors know they're armed and alert.

Snowed like crazy crazy up here. It's starting to get old.

Good luck on all fronts, especially in regards to publication.

  17. Happy 2008 to both you and Lana! Sitting around on the couch has been my favorite activity as I am sick with a wretched cold -- but I'm getting caught up with lots of reading and even started a reading journal per your suggestion from an old blog (I decided January would be as good as any to see how many books I read a year and what I actually do read -- should be interesting). Good luck with the publications!

  18. Mark, too soon. January 7 I go back to work.

Eric1313, they have the funfire in New Orleans too. I'm glad to be out of the city.

Michelle, sorry you've been sick. I've had some sinus problems but not enough to get me down. Hope you feel better soon.

  19. Charles, I had to laugh - we've had every computer game in the book over the last decade with sons keen (half life, halo etc) - but I've played aoe for x years as a form of relaxation - keep meaning to upgrade to Age of the Gods.

    Git bashing we call it...
