Tagged and Random
I’ve been tagged by Danette to name five random things about myself. In keeping with my general policy, I will obey the commands of the tag but will resist tagging anyone else. So here goes:
1. Since it’s on my mind, I just sold a poem to Niteblade . It’s called “Recompense Reprise,” and is an homage/ode to Robert E. Howard’s poetry. Howard, of course, is my favorite writer and I’m a member of the Robert E. Howard United Press Association, REHupa. I guess that’s a couple of random things about me in one.
2. As a kid I had a sparkplug collection. Hey, I grew up in the country and I played with sparkplugs. Anyone got a problem with that?
3. I love fried frog legs.
4. My first car was a maroon and white Malibu Classic. It outlasted three girlfriends.
5. I still like to read children’s or YA books sometimes. In fact, I’m very much enjoying Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH right now. I saw the movie many years ago and enjoyed it and found this book at a recent book sale and snapped it up. Glad I did.

Charles,
Congratulations on the poem!
Fried frog legs--I've tried gator tail, but I will not try it again!
More congrats on the poem. :)
And that was a very cool movie. [nodnod] A friend who's into anthropomorphics dragged some of us out to see it in the theater and it was definitely worth the ticket price.
Angie
That's awesome about the poem! Congrats! And I have to say, I had frog legs sauteed in France and I loved it.
Hmmm, if you care to ever do a guest review for me, I've got some YA fiction piling up.
I think you're never too old to read good books, and the best YA books are those adults can appreciate as well.
oh my god the secret of NIHM is my FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on the poem! Just the though of frogs legs makes me squeamish. I'd never win a million on Survivor because I'd never pass the 'eating gross stuff' challenge. Eww
Happy Holidays!!
Danette, thanks. mmmmmm, I've had gator and it was delicious.
Angie, thanks. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. It's been a long time.
Ello, mmmm, sauteed frog legs. I'm drooling.
SQT, I'd probably enjoy it but man am I swamped with reading right now. Thanks for the thought, though.
Sidney, indeed. There is some great fiction in the YA ranks. Why there's this guy named August who is pretty damn good. Every read any of his stuff?
Sheila, the book is really good too.
H.E. Good to see you. I hope you and the little one are doing well. I'll eat most of anything that is cooked, and sushi that is raw. But there are some foods I wouldn't handle well if they were raw.
FUN WITH SPARK PLUGS:
1) screw electrode end into ears
2) Connect other end to running car
3) Enjoy the fun
Peace
mark
It's that number 4, Charles. Perhaps I'm looking too deeply at it. I'd see a car like that as a fairy godmother.
Had frogs legs once - rubbery.
Might be better fried.
But.
What if they belonged to a prince?
Congrats on the poem, baby! Consider all the frog legs in the house yours. <:P
I just checked out Niteblade. Interesting site. The illustrations are a definite plus. Congrats.
Congratulations on the poem! Are you allowed to post a portion of it here?
If you enjoy YA, you also might like MG. I read MG all the time--partly because it's what I write, but mostly because I love it. I just finished "Holes" and loved it!
Mark, that seems a little dangerous but I'm not quite sure how.
Wayne, I hadn't thought of it that way but now that you mention it.
Bernita, Definitely not cooked well if they were rubbery.
Lana, I already had been thus considering them.
JR, thanks. Yeah, they have some good illustrations.
Church Lady, thanks. By MG do you mean "middle grades?" I'm not sure exactly what age the NIMH book would be. It reads a bit younger than what I typically think of as YA.
Congrats on the submission. That's very cool.
I see nothing wrong with having a spark plug collection.
As far as the children's or YA books, I say good writing is good writing regardless of the genre or age group targeted.
Cheers!
Did the other kids call you Sparky?
SQT, I'd probably enjoy it but man am I swamped with reading right now. Thanks for the thought, though.
No worries. If you feel up to it in the future, let me know. I always have something.
A sparkplug collection? That's different, but cool and no, I don't have a problem with it.
Yeah, they don't make girlfriends like they use to.
Congratulations on the poem Charles! When I was stationed in Germany there was a gasthaus in Wiesbaden that was open all night (read: so drunk people had someplace to go) and they served sauteed frogs'legs in garlic butter. The American frogs'legs I'd had before I went to Germany were longer and served individually. The German ones were shorter and they served them connected, like the frog was just cut in half at the waist. It was a little creepy at first, but they were good!
Fried frogs legs?
Sparkplugs?
Is there a connection?
Congratulations on getting published!
Poem: WooHOOOO
Sparkplugs: Excellent....
Frog Legs: Doesn't everybody?!
Mablibu: Still driven in New Zealand, oddly enough. Of course, the mullet (from the French moolay) is still worn as well...
Five: I forget what five is. Yes, beer may have been involved, why do you ask?
Okay, a *lot* of beer...
Ooooh yeah, NIMH...
Rock OOOOONNNN!!!!
Best thing Disney ever did for animation was not listen to Don Bluth so that he struck out on his own and made that cool-ass movie!
Alright, back to the beer.
Not tried frogs legs but like crocodile strips...
Travis, I wish I still had that collection. It was kind of cool. I had plugs from tractors, trucks, motorccyles, lawn mowers and even one humonguous one from a Yuke. I think my mom threw them out thinking they were trash.
Travis Erwin, there were a few but we lived in the country and there was plenty of room to bury the bodies. ;)
SQT, I definetely will.
Texlahoma, I'm from Arkansas, sort of near the two states of your name. Thanks for visitin my blog. Some hilarious entries over at yours.
Lisa, I've never had the legs connected but I bought some frozen yesterday at the store and they were connected that way.
Josie, thanks for the congrats. As for a connection between sparkplugs and frog legs I don't know, but I'm weird enough to have one.
Steve Malley, I had a mullett in my Malibu. And there was quite often beer involved. Maybe that was part of the reason the car outlasted three girlfriends. Yes, NIMH rocked. Lana and I were wondering last night where Bluth got off to.
Julie, I've even eaten Nutria in a stew. Was pretty good but then most meats are when you stew them long enough.
Hey Charles,
That's great about the poem! I tried rattlesnake once and that was about enough. Frog legs are good, though!
Charles, congrats on the poem! Niteblade's a pretty cool mag. And frog legs are good (just not filling enough).
Congrats, man!
Sparkplugs are as good a thing to collect as anything else. I always liked the name.
I had cold squid last night. Yumyum.
Congratulations.
Sparkplugs?
:]
