Well, it's a bit after 10:00 pm here at Fortress Gramlich, and so far we've had no trouble. A band of rain squalls came through around dusk but there wasn't much wind with them. We lost internet for a while, and we've had two brownouts, but nothing to worry about as of yet. I can see on radar a much thicker band of rain squalls headed our way. They should be on us before long but they don't actually look terribly heavy. Of course, the storm won't make landfall until tomorrow so we've got some waiting to do.
In the meantime, I watched "Duel" again on TV, and it wasn't quite as good as I remember. Dennis Weaver was a bit of a whiney bitch. I've been doing some reading, as well. Don't feel as if I could concentrate on much writing at the moment.
Well, more updates as time passes. Internet access allowing. Take care all.

All's quiet here in East Texas where they're saying we could get a lot of wind and rain, sometimes after y'all do.
Stay safe Charles.
Yes, Stay safe. I hope Gustav turns out to be a pussycat.
Lana, Charles, take care of yourselves and be sure to report to us your experiences.
By the end of the week I might see rain up here from Gustav.
Charles and Lana, I've been tracking the weather like an expectant somethingorother and hoping Gustav will surprise everyone by just changing his mind. In the event he doesn't, please stay safe.
stay safe!
Charles and Lana, there's always a safe haven for you here in Detroit. Well, okay, maybe not safe, but hurricane free!
Good luck, you two!
Three cheers and a big salud . . .
As long as Lana has the vodka and a good mixer all will be well. It's 4:10 right now and it looks like it's a hitting the coast now...hope it stays a 3 or less and breaks up quick.
Stay well.
One time when it might not be kulturni to say:"May the Force be with you!"
Be safe, you two.
Fingers crossed.
Charles:
Keeping a wary eye out at the radar - you folks are in my thoughts ...
Don
Isn't "Duel" about a trucker trying to run someone off the road. I believe I read the short story once in Zoetrope. "Duel" is what put Steven Speilberg on the map. Then again, I may be wrong. As for the short story, I was filled with suspense, and the truck itself seemed to be the main character.
Not "I" but "it".
Holy Crap ! You're not running for cover ?!?
'Dennis Weaver was a bit of a whiney bitch' LOL! A perfect description I'm afraid.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
Read about all those people fleeing the storm, in Louisiana and New Orleans. It must be gutwrenching and heartbreaking, my heart goes out to everyone who's in its path.
Good luck!
Good luck, Charles and Lana.
I remember Duel, watched it as an old movie in the wee hours as a kid staying up past my bedtime. I can't remember how it ended, but I do remember my intense frustration that there seemed to be no turnoffs or restaurants where poor Dennis Weaver could turn off. "Why doesn't he just park and run!" I kept saying to my sister.
I remember liking Duel, too. Maybe scary things just don't hit your safe place right now when you're worried about the storm. Take care of yourselves...
Good luck to Charles, I hope the storm doesn't give you too much grief. Stay safe!
I saw the tracker this morning has Gustav down to a 2, which is nothing to sneeze at but at least it doesn't appear to be the "mother of all storms" anymore.
Wishing you and Lana continued good luck.
Stay safe.
Yes, stay safe. We're watching the news with intensity...as we have family in Friendswood and Lake Charles.
Hunker down and know we're thinking of you.
last i heard, he's a cat 2, still freaky, but not as bad as katrina :(
stay safe!
Hey Charles, I was just going to email you, but your blog actually talks about the storm. We were watching news reports on it this morning and I wanted to make sure everything is still okay. Hope you and Lana are staying dry.
Best Wishes.
I was glad to read this morning that Gustav downgraded when it hit land. Whew!
Still sending good thoughts your way. May the Force be with you indeed!
Charles,
I worry. But that hardly helps.
Hugo, the mother-grabber, is heading norhwest now. Batten down the hatches!
I hope all continues well in Gramlichville, Charles. Looking at the satellite image, you are likely experiencing hurricane-force winds in your area. Hope the family and home weather the storm alright.
So far so good. Take care
hope you're online, soon....
hope you're well, Charles... let us know soon.
Be careful, Charles. You and Lana. :-) Hanna is heading our way on Friday, so I'm determining where I'll go. Keep us updated on what Gustav is doing in your area.
I read 'band of ran squalls' as 'band of rain squirrels', and image that I quite liked, especially since they hadn't brought wind with them.
Anyway, hope you're faring well, safe and dry and on the ground.
I hope the worst passed you by.
Sound like a good time to listen to some Iron Maiden, you know, run to the hills run for your lives.
I hope all finds you and Lana well, as the season is upon us once again.
Can you believe I want to pull the retirement, move to the Virgin Islands and open a bar. Can I even afford the insurance ?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Hey Charles, I got a book to send you (The Dark Ferryman) but I don't seem to have your address. :)
Don't think I would've been able to concentrate either.
Just checking.
Glad you're ok. Hope it stays that way.
Good vibes / prayers / thoughts your way (whatever works for you.) :0)
"We're still trying to locate TOL correspondent, Charles Gramlich, for a live update from the scene."
The Trailer Of Love
Charles: Hope you guys are OK, but my guess you've probably lost power. Watch out for those falling trees! Keep us updated when you can.
prayers for all my american brothers and sisters what with gustav, hanna and ike menacing so many :(
josephine is no threat, at this time....
Hey Charles,
Hope you and Lana are doing well! I'm hoping that all passes soon and everything goes back to normal.
Hope you and your family are safe!
Hope You and Mrs. are well, and that Gustav was pretty nice 2 You!!!
(( hugs ))
I think we are all waiting on the final report. I hope you and Lana had no difficulties.
So glad you've made it safely through so far. We've had torrential rain here in Scotland too, though nothing like you have down that way!
GOOD NEWS! Charles and Lana and their house are fine. Some trees came down, and they have no electricity. They'll report on their adventures when they get power back.
Thanks for the update Shauna! I thought they might be some of the many who were still without power. Glad you could tell us they're doing well.
